I was finally able to get my hands on Amnesia A Machine For Pigs and I to be honest… i’m a little disappointed. I’ve heard so many good things about how scary this game is but honestly it’s pretty boring. Don’t get me wrong the game itself definitely has the creepy factor going for it but the gameplay itself is really lackluster, and sloppy. The graphics are ok, but you guys should know by now that I don’t judge a game for it’s graphics. The game starts off quite good, you’re in your room, and you wake up to the sound of your kids asking you to find them. Traveling through your over sized mansion is creepy but one thing I really don’t like about the game is the fact that you can’t defend yourself.
It sets up these scary moments that you’re forced to go through knowing that you can’t defend yourself. I must have passed 4 shotguns, a hammer, and some knives and it bothered me that I couldn’t use them. Adding weapons in a game can still make it scary, Fear is a good example here, but taking them away and forcing you to hide from monsters that aren’t even scary is annoying and throws me out the experience. Right now I have mixed feelings on Amnesia, I love the surroundings, sound effects, and feel to the game itself but the lack of gameplay, stupid controls, and not being able to use weapons throws me out of it.
