The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing II Closed Beta Impressions

Before I start talking about my impressions of the closed beta of The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing II I want to thank Neocore Games for giving me access to the closed beta and allowing me to write my thoughts on it. Thank you Neocore Games you’re awesome.

2014-03-18_00005The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing II starts off in the middle of a war between Van Helsing, his trusty ghost partner that always has a wisecrack or two to say, Katarina, and the people of Borgova Town against an army of undead soldiers of all types. To top it off you’ll often have to dodge artillery strikes while fighting off hordes of these guys. At first I was confused on what I was supposed to do and where I was supposed to go but after familiarizing myself with the game mechanics it became a lot easier to find my way around the place. Borgova Town is actually quite small but it’s filled with side quest for you to do while you defend the town from the undead trying to besiege it. I never ran out of things to do while I was playing and that’s a major plus for me.

On the down side a lot of weapons, and armor that I found in the game were useless because I started off at level 30 and already had pretty good gear. Most of the gear that I found didn’t have a picture but that’s to be expected since this is only the closed beta version of the game. There are a ton of references in this game to go along with the seriousness of everything happening around you. I actually dropped my mouse on the floor and laughed out loud when one of the guards told me he thought he took an arrow to knee. It was completely unexpected and really awesome. So far I’ve found references to Saving Private Ryan which is named Saving Private Bryan and even a Gandalf line thrown in as well.

2014-03-18_00006While the voice acting for Van Helsing and Katarina is good everyone else can actually use a little work but for the most part it’s decent and gets the job done. It’s about on par with the first game in terms of voice acting. The skill tree is huge and there are a ton of new skills added in for you to tinker with as you play through the game. The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing II feels more dynamic then the first one.

You have siege weapons firing at you enemy reinforcements dropping out of the sky in pods. Giving simple commands to the soldiers and common townsfolk around you really makes you feel as if you’re at war and everything really does depend on you. One thing I hope they fix by the release day is the character choices. Right now it doesn’t matter what choice you make in the game because the exact same outcome will happen. It doesn’t matter if you tell the guards to call for reinforcements or stay and fight with they have the outcome will be the same and that bugged me a little.

All in all, The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing II left me wanting more at the end of the beta. Things were really moving along nicely and when I reached the end of the beta I sighed in disappointment because I really wanted to see what happened next during our retreat. So far this really is the case of “bigger is better” like Neocore Games said and I’m very impressed with the game so far.

The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing II is set to be released on April 17th, on the PC and Mac and I’m looking forward to providing you with a full review. Until then look for all your gaming related content right here on Gamers Sphere.

    1. Sure. All you do is talk to them once you get the mission from the commander. I usually have my guys put up turrets for cover fire.

Hope that helps. Thanks for reading.

  1. This one has me excited. I’m a huge fan of Van Helsing as a character and to see him brought to life in a new game is awesome.

Conversely, I now, oddly, want to play me some Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines. Huh.

    1. Lol. That is indeed strange but that game is awesome so go for it :]. I also love Van Helsing as a character and I’m very excited to play it when it releases next month.
