From Software Acquired By Kadokawa

From Software has a new home. They have just recently been purchased by Kadokawa Shoten. What does this mean for the Soul Series? Honestly I think this might be a good move for From Software. Dark Souls has been extremely successful, especially on the PC, and if Kadokawa is smart they’ll just let From do their own thing. I think the future could be really bright for From Software. There PC ports are getting better, but they’re not there yet.

It’s no surprise that From Software has acquired, considering how successful both Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 is so far. It is surprising that a Manga company is the one acquiring them though. I honestly never thought anything like that would ever happen.

Here is the official press statement

“We are planning to expand our position in this business with both Kadokawa Games and From Software,”.

“We have planned a series of discussions aimed at co-operation: expanding and developing both companies while taking advantage of their areas of expertise.”

Katokawa has also stated that they plan to release a new IP from both it’s internal studio and From Software, and the new games will be aimed at Western audiences.

Katokawa Shoten has not released a game outside of Japan yet. Is that going to happen to Dark Souls? If you have any thoughts on the matter feel free to leave a comment below and tell us what you think.

  1. Hopefully they work well together. Katokawa have done the mangas of good shows like Cowboy Bebop. They aren’t strangers to video games either. The published Lollipop Chainsaw and develop Demon Graze, which I am presently enjoying.
