My brief taste of Murdered Soul Suspect was bitter. It’s a mess of a game that has tons of potential, but lacks a strong story to keep me invested in the game for more than twenty minutes at a time. If you’re a fan of games with very little gameplay than you might like this game, but for the rest of us it just feels like one big missed opportunity.
The main protagonist is murdered at the very beginning of the game and what happens after that is what you could call his entire life flashing before his eyes. The problem with that is it happened to fast. I didn’t have any time to get to know my character or his life so why should I care that he died from some random killer with a gun?
I walked into this game hoping for a sort of L.A. Noire/ghost type game, but instead I got nothing but endless QTES and I was bored ten minutes into the game. The voice acting is solid, but the dialogue is just alright. Most Square Enix games, or companies working under Square Enix, has below average dialogue in their games and so far it seems like it’s present here in Murdered Soul Suspect.
The brief time that I got to actually move my character around was alright, but there was nothing to do, but go to the next scripted event and play some more QTES.
You can choose from different dialogue options in the game, but it doesn’t really change anything. I would have preferred more fleshed out dialogue instead of stupid dialogue options that doesn’t change the flow of the conversation.
One thing that really bugged me about the main character is that he appears to be a cop, but with his record you would think that he couldn’t be one. Especially with his record. Maybe he’s a P.I. That would certainly make things more believable because you have to go through a lot of shit if you have a record and want to be a cop here in the US.
If he is a cop why the hell did he go after the so called serial killer by himself instead of calling for backup? I’m only an hour in the game and I’m already finding things that don’t add up and honestly I could care less.
Murdered Soul Suspect as of right now is definitely a big miss for me. It’s doing very little right and honestly I don’t expect that to change as I continue playing through this game. Walking through walls is cool, but its not enough for me to want to jump back experience more of this incredibly flawed game.
