Planescape Torment First Impression

I have never played Planescape Torment before yesterday. I was looking through my backlog of games on GOG and downloaded a few games that I always wanted to play, but never really had the time to play them. Planescape Torment was the first game that I tried and so far it’s amazing.

For a game that came out back in 1999 it looks pretty good. I already have a few must have mods installed and I’m playing this game in full 1080p. The dialogue is excellent and I loved the opening cutscene to this game. You wake up in a morgue with no idea how you got there. You’re dead and you don’t know how you died.

A floating skull that can talk fills you in enough for you to have an understanding on what is going and your first quest is pretty simple… to escape the place that you’re in. It took me hours to find my way around the first area because I’ve, sadly, gotten used to having my hand held in modern rpgs.

imagesThere is no handing here and it’s honestly a breath of fresh air. So far the floating skull is my only companion and he’s pretty useful. He packs a decent punch and always has something funny to say about the dead zombie girls walking around. Just walking around and talking to all the npcs in the starting area took me about two hours. There is a lot of dialogue in this game and you really have to pay attention to everything because there are clues in the dialogue that you’ll need later.

When I was younger I hated point and click combat with a passion, but I don’t really mind it at all in this game. I’ve actually been playing a lot of games with the old school point and click gameplay and I’ve been enjoying myself.

Planescape Torment is unlike any game I think I’ve ever played. It’s really unique and I’m very curious to see what happens next in my adventure. So far this game is living up to all the hype that everyone has given it over the years and I can’t wait to jump back in it.
