The only game that I bothered to buy this year for the big summer sale that Steam is having is Divinity Original Sin. Since the game will be officially released on the 30th of this month I figured I might as well get it while it’s discounted and honestly I’m really glad I did.
Divinity Original Sin is a really great game. I thought I would experience game breaking bugs, but honestly it’s been a very smooth ride so far. I’ve actually played through the beta twice already and I’m about to create another group of characters to do it again. I have over 20 hours of gameplay time and the game is still in early access.
So far this year has been filled with some pretty good RPGs and I would argue that this game is better than all the other ones that I’ve played this year. I love the fact that this game doesn’t hold your hand like modern RPG games that come out today do.
The gameplay is where this game shines the most. It’s like playing a medieval Xcom game. Every character has a turn in combat. You can move around and attack as long as you have the right amount of action points.
The spells are amazing and I never thought I would have so much fun playing as a mage. You can make it rain if there’s fire blocking your path or shoot a ball of fire on some oil barrels and watch it explode and kill everything in the vicinity.
The dialogue between the characters is well written and it kept me immersed in the game every time I played through it. You can even chat back and forth with your own two created characters and it honestly adds a lot of immersion to the game.
I can’t wait until I can experience the full version of this game. It’s supposed to have voice acting and just yesterday mod support was released for the game. The devs have worked really hard on this game and so far their hard work has really paid off.
If you’re looking for a classic styled RPG than look no further than Divinity Original Sin.
