Swordsman Online First Impression

Swordsman Online finally went into open beta. I’ve been waiting for months to get my hands on this game and I’m glad to say that it doesn’t disappoint. This is one of the most theatrical MMO’s I’ve ever played. It has cool cutscenes, fight scenes, and some pretty good voice acting too.

You can play this game three different ways. You can play this like Neverwinter or like your average MMO. The story is surprisingly pretty good so far. Your entire village gets murdered by an evil clan of swordsman and you vow to get revenge no matter what it takes.

I just had a flashback of my character preparing the village for an attack 10 days prior to it happening. My character actually cried. It was what I would call triple A quality type of crying, but the fact that it’s there impressed me. There are a host of different fighting styles you can get in this game. It took me almost an hour just to select my new fighting style.

swordsmanI want to create different characters just so I can experiment with which each of them and determine which one is my favorite. Swordsman is actually based on a book with the same name and so far the story is a step above your average MMO. Don’t expect Star Wars The Old Republic type of quality in the dialogue though.

Swordsman Online is pretty glitchy right now, but it is still in open beta. I’m sure all of the bugs will be worked out eventually.

Graphically, this is a beautiful game. I love the environments, character models, and the physics. You can easily spend hours just customizing your characters in the create a character menu and that’s a major plus in my book.

If you’re looking for a new Asian styled MMO to get into I’d recommend giving this game a shot. So far it’s pretty amazing.
