Insidious 2 is the sequel to Insidious. I first saw Insidious when released on Netflix a few years ago. It was a good movie, but had a terrible ending. Insidious 2 picks up right where we left off in part 1.
Insidious 2 takes us back to the Lambert family. They’re trying to recover from their ordeals in the last movie, but strange things keep happening around Renal and her husband, Josh, refuses to acknowledge them.
If you’ve already seen part 1 than you should already know what’s wrong with Josh. Honestly I was a little disappointed with this film. It wasn’t scary at all. A lot of things happened, but I just felt like it was too much at times. The hauntings started really early on in the movie. Since I saw the first one I knew exactly why they were being haunted.
I did enjoy learning about the origins of the ghost that had taken over Josh’s body. Throughout the movie we would see Josh talking to himself. The kids in the movie didn’t play as big a part this time around. I honestly think that’s a good thing because they’re not very good actors.
Every actor in the movie did a good job. No one was amazing, but it was acceptable.
Insidious 2 had some inconsistencies throughout the movie. There’s one point in the movie when Josh gets the door slammed on his hand and it magically disappears a few scenes later. The video that young Elise shot of Josh was also different later on in the movie.
There was one point in the film that you could actually see the red light from the camera shooting the movie. I remember laughing out loud when I went back and closely looked at the portrait. It’s laughable that the director didn’t hide that in the film. I don’t think I’ve ever noticed the film crew in a movie before and if I did than it’s been a really long time since it happened.
Insidious Chapter 2 isn’t really a horror movie. I love seeing the area that the dead pass through on their way to the afterlife, but I couldn’t help but think that this could have been better. The setting of the film was good, I actually liked the Lambert Family in the first film, but didn’t care for them at all in this one.
The “scary” moments in the movie were lame and even the mysterious land of the dead was disappointing this time around. Insidious Chapter 2 is a step back from the first movie, but I did enjoy it enough to say that it wasn’t a complete waste of time.
If I would have reviewed the first Insidious it would have scored well with me. Hopefully Insidious 3 will be better.
