The Legend Of Heroes: Trials In The Sky – Short Review

The Legend of Heroes: Trials In The Sky has made it’s way on to the PC for the very first time. It was originally on the PSP. How is Trials In The Sky on the PC? Is it a good port? Lets find out.

In Trials In The Sky is your average JRPG. The main character is some emo kid that was mysteriously found in the middle of the night. I noticed the flaws in this game almost immediately. The dialogue is what you would expect from a JRPG. It’s not very good and it’s filled with nonsense that would make someone who’s not a fan of the genre cringe.

The cast of characters that were introduced are full of cliches and you can literally find the exact same character in countless other JRPGs. I honestly don’t know how this doesn’t bother people by now.

second-legend-of-heroesThe gameplay is actually pretty good. It is turn based, but it’s sort of like the Agarest games. You can move your characters around a grid and have them attack. It’s not a perfect combat system and it could use some work, but it’s acceptable. The gameplay does become repetitive after about an hour though.

The pacing in Trials In The Sky is horrible. It takes way too long for anything of note to happen. I found myself skipping unnecessary dialogue and just rushing from location to location because I was tired of wasting my time doing absolutely nothing.

The soundtrack is what you would expect from a JRPG. It’s really just average here and probably won’t be remembered after you complete the game.

The story isn’t memorable to say the least. After main protagonists father mysteriously disappears they continue his job as a mercenary. That turns into a search for him and a bunch of other unimportant things.

Graphically, this game is just okay, but what do you expect from a game that released back in 2004? I’ve seen better games on the 3DS.

The PC port of this game is horrible. It is filled with countless bugs and glitches right now. You’ll see screen tearing during cutscenes and some times your entire screen will stay green. I’ve crashed to my desktop about 20 times since yesterday.

The Legend of Heroes: Trials In The Sky is nothing special. It’s not worth the $20 price tag on Steam. Especially in the condition that it’s in now. If you are curious about this game it would be best to wait for a price drop.

Our Verdict: 5/10
