Rise Of The Tomb Raider Is An Xbox One Exclusive

It’s a great time to be an Xbox One owner. It’s just been announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider will be an Xbox One exclusive that will release next year.

I know this news will obviously disappoint a lot of people, but since I own an Xbox One I’m not mad at all. I can’t wait to play the sequel and see what lies next for Lara Croft. The trailer that I saw at E3 got me pumped up to play it.

I think all of us thought that the next Tomb Raider game would be on both consoles and the PC like the previous games were. That’s obviously not the case this time.

You can’t help but wonder if Eidos Montreal and Sony had a falling out or if Microsoft simply offered them so much money they couldn’t refuse. My bet is on the second choice.

Either way the next Tomb Raider game is now an Xbox One exclusive.

    1. The amount they paid for Tomb Raider isn’t even a dent in Microsoft’s bank account :].

Tomb Raider sold pretty well on the Xbox consoles. It did the worst on the PC so I wouldn’t be surprised if the next game was withheld from PC too.

I know many people are going to be upset with this news, but that’s just how business turns out some times for games. I wish everyone could enjoy every game, but there are exclusives with everything. Even PC has exclusives. It’s just the world we live in.

  1. I’m not against console exclusivity per se…but when you take an old (almost 20-year-old), established series and shut off at least 50% of the fanbase, it’s a kick in the collective groin. Not everyone can afford two current gen consoles and a lot of people already made their choice between the PS4 and Xbox One so that’s bound to piss off a lot of people. Also, if they really wanted New Raider to be a Microsoft exclusive, why did they bother bringing out TR 2013 and the Definitive Edition on other platforms?

Very disappointed with Crystal Dynamics’ decision but, sadly, not at all surprised. They killed off the Lara I knew when they rebooted the franchise and this is the final nail in her coffin. Thankfully I have a good back catalogue of TR games to enjoy… 😉

    1. This new Tomb Raider is the best in the series in my opinion. That game made me a Tomb Raider fan. Game developers will always go where the money is whether we like it or not. Obviously it will disappoint people, but there’s nothing we can do about it.

I’m excited though because by next year I should have every console :].

      1. With Microsoft’s Gamescom confused people into thinking that Rise of the Tomb Raider was a permanent exclusive for Xbox One, but Phil Spencer came out and stated it is only a timed exclusive only for the holidays.

      2. I know. I wrote this before he said that. We don’t know how long it will be on Xbox before it moves over though. I’m thinking about 6 months.

      3. That’s a few months then. I’m thinking everyone else will get it Spring while Xbox owners gets it for the Winter season.

I don’t care. It’s not out right now lol. I have to wait a whole year to get my hands on it. I should have The Witcher 3 by then though :]
