Risen 3 is the third installment in the long running Risen franchise. I didn’t think the Risen games sold well enough to warrant another one, but what do I know right?
As soon as Risen 3 starts you’re immediately thrust into battle on your pirate ship. You’re fighting some sort of demons and they have you surrounded. The first thing I noticed almost immediately is how beautiful this game is. It’s a major step up from Risen 2.
The second thing that I noticed was the bad animations. The animations in Risen 3 reminds me of the animations from the Two World games and those games came out years ago. The only difference is I actually like Two Worlds.
The animations have gotten better when compared to previous Risen games, but they’re still horrible.
The gameplay is pretty much the same as it’s always been in the Risen games. For some odd reason your character likes to spin around in circles when he fights. It just looks weird and it’s out of place. I’m supposed to be a badass pirate, but I’m spinning around like a Chinese swordsman.
The combat feels slower than the previous Risen games and after gaming for about two hours last night I felt like the game was already getting repetitive. Fighting enemies isn’t fun right now. I’m only at the very beginning of the game right now and I’m hoping that the game will get fun at some point.
I don’t have a specialization and right now I’m stuck on an island when a bunch Gnomes that call me Homi. It’s actually pretty funny because it was so random.
The voice acting so far is pretty good. It’s a step up from both Risen games and I have no complaints about it.
Risen 3 is okay so far, but I’m glad I didn’t pay $50 for it. I have to thank G2A for that. Hopefully once I learn some spells and get some more skills the game will get a lot better.
If you’re thinking about getting Risen 3 I would recommend trying to find a good deal for it instead of paying triple A price for it because it’s not a triple A quality game.
