Man Of Tai Chi [ Short Review ]

Man of Tai Chi is Keanu Reeves debut as a director, but I didn’t know that coming into this film. I just came across it on Netflix and thought it looked awesome by the box art. So I gave it a chance and was blown away by how awesome everything in this film was.

The fight scenes are beautifully done, the soundtrack is beautiful, and the acting is top notch. Keanu Reeves really outdid himself here.

Man of Tai Chi shows us what can happen to a peaceful man when he’s corrupted and loses himself in all of the violence of underground fighting. Keanu Reeves played more of a background role in this movie.

The fight scenes are excellent. There is no shaky cam here to get in the way of watching two guys beat the shit out of each other. The camera placement was perfect in every single fight and that’s harder to do than most people realize. The best fight in the movie is the very last one though. I loved watching Keanu Reeves fight.

I wish Man of Tai Chi would have had a little more focus on the drama instead of rushing to the next fight scene, but since the fights were so good I’m willing to give it a pass here. This movie was better than I ever thought imagined it could be.

I didn’t expect to be blown away and I was shocked when I saw Keanu Reeves name pop up as the director of the film in the end credits.

I have a new found respect for Keanu Reeves and I hope he directs more movies in the future because he’s really good at it.

Our Verdict: 8/10
