Transformers Age Of Extinction Review

I finally got a chance to sit down and watch the latest Transformers movie and my god it was long. This is the first Transformers movie that does not have Shia Labeouf, but I didn’t mind not seeing his character in the movie because I was never a fan of the supporting cast around him. Sam’s parents were just stupid characters that served no purpose to the movie.

Mark Wahlberg is now the new main protagonist and for the most part he did a really good job. You have to be willing to accept a bunch of cheesy lines from Mark Wahlberg and Transformers Age of Extinction has plenty of one liners and meaningless dialogue.

Whoever wrote the dialogue to this movie needs to be punched in the face. None of the dialogue is close to being good. The transformers have good dialogue for the most part, but Mark Wahlberg and the grade B actors that travel with him to save the world don’t even average dialogue. No one has any chemistry together.

My least favorite characters are Tessa and Shane. Their romance wasn’t even good. I just kept hoping that Cade would knock Shane off a roof and slap some sense into his stupid daughter. Why does every teenage girl have to be so stupid in movies?

Transformers-Age-of-Extinction-Optimus-PrimeAnother thing that I didn’t like was the fact that this movie focused so much on the humans. That’s always been a big problem with these films. I’m not watching this movie to see the CIA make deals with a billionaire. I’m watching this movie to see Optimus Prime lead the Autobots and kick some ass.

There was plenty of action in this film, but it didn’t really get good until the last fight. When the dinosaur transformers teamed up with the Autobots was awesome. Optimus Prime kicked all kinds of ass in this film and I really enjoyed those scenes.

Sam is no longer the focus of the series and I think it’s for the better because we got to see more of Optimus Prime. I loved Prime in this film. We got to see a darker side of him. He’s lost so many friends that he’s ready to turn his back on humanity. He even talked about killing someone and that wasn’t like him at all.

transformers-age-of-extinction-8The plot wasn’t bad, but the acting was and that really brought the movie down for me. The only actor that was decent was Mark Wahlberg and he wasn’t as good as he usually is in his movies.

I liked how they brought Megatron back. I wish we would have saw another duel between the two iconic characters before the movie ended, but it didn’t happen.

That’s not taking anything away from the end fight scene though. I thought it was an excellent way to end the movie and set up the future sequels.

Transformers Age of Extinction won’t win any awards or any movie of the year awards from any bloggers, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have some good action sequences that make up for all of the weak acting, and straight up stupid cast of characters.

The Verdict: 6/10

I thought this was one of the better films in the long running Transformers franchise, but it still has a long way to go before I’ll consider this a contender for best comic book movie of the year.
