Some games just don’t live up to the hype. That’s happened a lot this year hasn’t it? Destiny, Watch Dogs, and many other games have failed to live up to expectations. This is our top 10 most disappointing games of 2014.
10. Civilization Beyond EarthWe had high expectations for Civilization Beyond Earth. Unfortunately Beyond Earth is nothing short of a disappointment. We had fun playing against each other, but this is the bare bone minimum of what a Civilization game is. Most Civilization games take a while to get great and so far that seems to be the case with Beyond Earth.
The Crew promised us a huge open world filled with tons of things for us to do. Unfortunately the game still plays like it’s in beta testing. The world is big, but good luck trying to enjoy it. This is one of the buggiest games to release this year. The Crew isn’t a bad game, but it’s not a good one either in it’s current state.
Warframe is a really good game when it works. The Xbox One version of the game has a ton of bugs and glitches and instead of the devs fixing them they just ignored them. I’ve fallen through the map, got stuck in walls, started a stage with no head or arms, and crashed. Those are just some of things that’s happened to us in our 100+ hours we’ve spent in the Xbox One version of Warframe.
This game would have been higher if I had any expectations for it. The truth is I never cared about Evolve, but it disappointed me enough to make the list. Evolve is the most repetitive game I’ve played this year. You get three other friends, team up to fight a big ass monster, rinse and repeat until you’re bored out of your mind. Evolve is not going to last long. It’s just another Titanfall. Speaking of Titanfall…
When we first played the beta for Titanfall we loved it. I remember telling my wife how excited I was for the release of it because I thought we were getting a lot more content in the final release of the game. I’m sure everyone that played the beta thought that, but it didn’t turn out that way. I played Titanfall for two weeks before I quit and I haven’t touched it since.
I really wanted to love Divinity: Original Sin. We were promised a lot before this game came out and the devs didn’t deliver. There is no day and night cycle, romance or any sort, and most disappointing thing of all is the lack of a story. Instead of giving us that they gave us some really bad humor. Divinity has great gameplay, but that can only keep a person invested for so long.
Who wasn’t excited for Watch Dogs when it first announced a few years ago. Watch Dogs has seen some drastic changes before it’s release. The biggest one of all had to be the downgrade on the console port of the game. Watch Dogs was over hyped and Ubisoft failed to deliver yet again. Being able to control traffic lights with a phone is cool, but that doesn’t take away the disappointment that this game is. Don’t even get me started on the PC port of this game.
With all the hype that was surrounding Destiny I’m pretty sure everyone thought that it would be game of the year or at least a candidate for game of the year. Destiny is a mess of a game. Is it a MMO or is it a FPS? The latest expansion for Destiny was the last straw with me. Destiny’s lack of content can’t be ignored and the fact that there’s already a Destiny 2 in the works tells me that what we have with Destiny right now is all we’re getting.
Fable has fallen so far from what it used to be. 10 years ago if you would have asked me what my favorite RPG was it would have been Fable. I’ve even gotten my wife into the series, well… the first two games anyway. Fable Legends is not a real Fable game and I fear that we won’t ever see one again. Rest in peace Fable. It was fun while it lasted.
The Elder Scrolls Online is a utter failure. It’s the bare boned minimum of what an Elder Scrolls game should be and Zenimax should be ashamed of themselves for making this garbage. I really wanted to love The Elder Scrolls Online, but I couldn’t ignore the lack of Elder Scrolls in the game. Maybe one day we’ll have a true Elder Scrolls co op game. Until then I’ll stick with Skyrim.
Here’s our list of most disappointing games. Some games on this list aren’t bad games, but they are disappointing when you think about what they could have been.
