Top 10 Games of 2014 Revised

Back when I wrote my top 10 games of 2014 I didn’t own a Wii U so I didn’t play any of the games that released for it last year. Now that I do own one I think it’s only fair that I redo my top 10 games of 2014.  I decided to cut remakes from my list so Fable, and Total War will not be on my top ten list.

10. Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor

Once again I’ll start my list off with Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. I haven’t touched this game since I completed it the first time and that’s why it’s dead last on my list. This game has zero replayability and I can’t bring myself to even attempt another playthrough of it. I loved my first playthrough of Middle Earth a lot though and that’s why it’s in my top 10 once again.

9. Warlock II: The Exiled

Warlock II was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed playing this game. It’s a good distraction from Civilization, and Total War because of it’s fantasy elements. I can shoot fireballs from the sky and shape the land around me to whatever I want. That alone is enough to justify putting this game in my top 10 of 2014.

8. Bayonetta 2

Bayonetta-2-1

I loved the first Bayonetta game so it’s no surprise that I loved Bayonetta 2 too. Bayonetta 2 is more of what we loved about Bayonetta 1, but more. We have better bosses, more fleshed out gameplay, a multiplayer mode, and a good story. What more can you ask for in a sequel?

7. The Banner Saga

banner saga

The Banner Saga continues to be a regularly played game in my very large library of games on Steam. The story this game told was one of the best one’s told last year and the gameplay, while flawed, is enjoyable. Hopefully part 2 will give us more exploration because the world of The Banner Saga is a beautiful one.

6. Rayman Legends

Rayman Legends

I’ve never been a fan of Rayman. I always thought the Rayman games were stupid. That changed when I played Rayman Legends. The only thing that kept me from giving this game a full 10 was the $40 price tag and that continues to be the case today.

5. Wolfenstein: The New Order

Wolfenstein was a breath of fresh air for the FPS genre. It took us back to the 90’s while keeping the feel of modern FPS games. It told one hell of a story and it’s nonstop action is what kept me coming back for months.

4. Legend of Grimrock II

Legend of Grimrock II is more of what we loved from part 1, but more. There are more puzzles, enemies, classes, and environments for us to explore. The first Legend of Grimrock was a fantastic game, but it kept us confined in a dungeon. Legend of Grimrock II has us exploring lush forest, caves, and much more.

3. Super Smash Bros U

I can’t believe I waited so long to play this game. It’s amazing! I can’t remember the last time I had so much fun playing with friends. Super Smash Bros U has an impressive roster of characters for us to beat the living shit out of each other with. Add 8 player multiplayer to the mix and you’ve got countless hours of fun to be had with friends.

2. Dark Souls II

Dark Souls 2 4

Dark Souls II was everything I wanted in a Dark Souls sequel. It mixed Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls in one game and the end result is a easier game than Dark Souls, but harder than Demon’s Souls. The improved gameplay is really what kept me coming back to this game. I still play it regularly today with friends and we still have a blast.

1. Dragon Age InquisitionDragon Age™ Inquisition (15)

No game came close to Dragon Age Inquisition. I’ve completed this game multiple times and put in more than 400 hours of gameplay since it’s release and I’m still not done yet. I still haven’t played as all of the classes in this game, but every Dragon Age game did this to me. It’ll probably take me another year before I play through this game with every class. Dragon Age Inquisition is my game of 2014.
