Should I Get Rid Of My Xbox One?

I’ve been debating on whether or not to get rid of my Xbox One since August.

If you know me then you’ll know that I love my gaming consoles. I have an Xbox One, Wii U, Sega Dreamcast, Super Nintendo, Gamecube, Wii, and PC and I use all of them, but lately I’ve been thinking about getting rid of my Xbox.

Before I go on I would like to state that I actually like the Xbox One and me wanting to get rid of it isn’t because I’m jumping over to Sony, which will never happen because I think the PS4 is worst console out right now, it’s simply because I don’t use it anymore. It’s just collecting dust. My favorite game on the Xbox One is Killer Instinct and I love it to death. I really do, but I haven’t purchased a game on the Xbox One since The Witcher 3 came out. I brought The Witcher 3 on both Xbox One and PC and reviewed both copies.

I haven’t used my Xbox since I completed The Witcher 3, on PC, and I’m honestly not looking forward to any game that’s coming to The Xbox One. I know there are some pretty good looking titles coming to the Xbox One next year. There’s Crackdown 3, Quantom Break, Scalebound, and a few other titles, but it doesn’t really bother me to miss out on those games.

All I really need is my PC, and Wii U. The Wii U has the best exclusives of the three consoles and I don’t go a day without jumping on my Wii U to play a nice quality title. The only time I bother to turn on my Xbox is when I want to watch Hulu and I can easily do that on the Wii U or my PC.

I’ve been thinking really hard on whether or not to stick with my Xbox because I know it’s going to get rolling next year, but right now… it’s just hard because I really don’t want it. I own a lot of games on it and I know if I get rid of the console I’ll be losing access to all of my downloadable titles that I’ve purchased over the last year, but it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve lost out on games by getting rid of a console. I did the same thing to my PS3 three years ago and I don’t miss it.

PC gaming is where it’s at right now in my opinion. It’s cheap, I can choose from thousands of games to buy, download, and play and it performs better then both consoles combined. I’m really disappointed with how weak these new consoles are and I’m tired of playing games with problems on them. I guess that’s one of the reason’s why I want to get rid of it. 9 times out of 10 I buy my mulitplatform games on PC so what’s the point in owning another console besides the Wii U?

The so called “greatest lineup in Xbox history” is a joke. We’re getting Rise of The Tomb Raider, that one looks really good, Halo 5, pass, and Fable Legends. The greatest lineup in Xbox history has Fable fucking Legends in it? Really? That game alone makes the list mediocre. Halo 5 is going to attract a big crowd because of it’s fanbase, but I’m not getting it because the only games I plan on owning before Christmas are Super Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Yo Kai Watch, Fallout 4, Xenoblade Chronicles X, and Just Cause 3. None of those will be played on my Xbox. Everything I’m getting at a later date and I don’t plan on owning Halo 5 at all because I’m not a Halo fan.

Fable Legends can just jump off a cliff as far as I’m concerned, but I am interested in Tomb Raider.

I’m not 100% sure that I’m getting rid of the Xbox One just yet, but I would need a really good reason to keep it.

  1. I’ve never played Xenoblade before. This will be my first one. The Devil’s Third is a must have for me too.

I’m a big Football guy and I know there are no Madden games on PC so I’ll be losing out on that. I know Killer Instinct is coming to PC and that’s the main reason why I wrote this. I just don’t see the point in having my Xbox anymore.

  2. I picked up an Xbox One and a PS4 near launch and had a similar problem. I knew the PS4 would eventually get some good stuff, but I never really used it. I played FF14, and once I stopped there was little reason for me to even turn on the PS4. I decided to just sell it on eBay and use the money for Xbox games, knowing that I could always go back and buy another one later once they got the ball rolling. I don’t regret it, and if you think you can live without the Xbox One, there’s no reason to remain tethered at all. You know they’re pushing out tons of bundles, and if you want to grab another when Scalebound or Quantum Break or whatever tickles your fancy releases, you’ll have plenty of options.

    1. What you said makes a lot of sense. There are still five or six games I want to get for the Wii U before this year ends. I missed out on Super Mario Maker, I still don’t have Mario Kart, and I want The Devil’s Third, and Xenoblade Chronicles X. I’m also getting Fallout 4, and Just Cause 3 on PC. I just don’t have a reason to use my Xbox One anymore and I have even less reasons to want a PS4. I want Bloodborne, and Street Fighter V.

Street Fighter V is releasing on the PC so I won’t need a PS4 for that. I refuse to buy a console for one game.

I do have games on my Xbox that I enjoy, but all of those games can be gotten on PC too so I’m not really missing out on much if I decide to get rid of it.

      1. If Killer Instinct is your primary reason for keeping your Xbox, and that game is coming to PC with the same content, it’s no big loss. And you know that open world sandbox games like Just Cause 3 and Fallout 4 will most likely be better experiences on PC for the usual reason.

I’m a big baseball guy, and Xbox doesn’t offer that. So I picked up my 2nd PS4 after missing out on MLB 15 this year, especially with playoffs/World Series going on right now. I just plain needed it. I also wanted Until Dawn, Dragon Quest Heroes, and Bloodborne pretty bad, so I snagged the Uncharted bundle.

I highly recommend Mario Kart 8. It’s incredible. I passed on Mario Maker because I’m just not sure how interested I am in playing nothing but user content, and I know I have no interest in making my own levels. Devil’s Third looks ri-god-damn-diculous and I need it, and I know Xenoblade is a day one purchase. Chronicles for Wii/New 3DS is one of the best RPGs ever made.
