Steam Reviews Are A Joke

I love reading Steam reviews. They’re so bad that they actually make me laugh some times. How can you play a game for one hour and then write a detailed review on Steam about the game you’re playing?

Just Cause 3 literally just came out and Steam is filled with hundreds of reviews about the game already. The most play time that I saw was about 3 hours of play time and they decided to write a detailed review and slap a 6 on the game. This was me after I saw the score.

You’ll rarely find a review on Steam that isn’t done within the first few hours of the game. Just Cause 3 isn’t the only example. I can give you thousands of them. When Steam reviews were first announced I was excited about the idea to share my thoughts about a game with everyone on Steam. I have shared my opinions on games like Van Helsing III, and The Final Cut.

Not every review on Steam is bad, but a good majority of them are and they’re usually the ones that are at the top of the page. Read Steam reviews, but don’t take them seriously. Don’t let them be the deciding factor between you buying a game or not. Watch some gameplay, read some pro reviews or visit blogs and read reviews there.

Bloggers usually write the best reviews and give their honest opinions about what they’re writing about while big corporations is usually a hit or miss.

Steam needs to refine their review system. Maybe they should make us play X amount of hours before we’re allowed to review games. That’ll piss a lot of 1 hour reviewers off, but it’ll make the review system better in my opinion. Anything is better then what we have now.

Happy gaming guys.

  1. I remember with the new Overlord game it got shot into the ground because ppl didnt understand it was a spin off. Truth to be told, the game has issues. Like starting multiplayer and not able to change you kind bindings.

Majority of the reviews: “This is a bad game because its not Overlord III or not like Overlord 2.”

In my opinion, be careful with gameplay vids… Since some YouTubers make them just to SELL the game. One of the best things is playing the demo or like you said… Read blogs like mine or yours. We write honestly and point out things we thought were bad. We do this as a hobby so we can take our time with a review. 🙂

I think I might write a response article to this, backing you up with my point of view ^^~

    1. I’ve always loved the Overlord games :].

I never got a chance to play the new one, but I did notice all of the mixed reviews on Steam. I take them with a rain of salt because most Steam users don’t know how to be objective while they’re gaming. They just find something they don’t like and rage about it.

I watch gameplay vids to determine if a game is fun to me. I don’t care what a Youtuber says about the game because at the end of the day my opinion is the only one I care about when I’m purchasing a new game.

I’ll definitely read your article when you have it up and ready :].

  2. Steam reviews are at least better than Amazon ones haha. You find some good write ups among the rubbish and silly stuff. It’s cool that you can see how long someone has played a game to determine if its a proper review or more of a first impression.

    1. I think 90% of the reviews I’ve read are nothing more then first impressions :].

And you’re right about Amazon reviews. They give the game they buy five stars because it arrived on time :]
