Devilian is out of closed beta. I had a chance to test this game out while it was in closed beta, but never got around to it because I was stuck on Fallout 4. I decided to take a good look at what this game has to offer and share my thoughts on it.
Devilian has pretty good gameplay with nice graphics and awesome animations, but suffers from the same thing that plagues games like Tera. There are no interesting quest or things to do in the game besides kill mobs of enemies and while that’s fun I don’t see myself committing to this game just yet.
Graphically, Devilian is pretty impressive. It looks better then Path of Exile and has some really good gameplay, but it’s also pretty casual in it’s approach. I reached level in about an hour. That’s pretty fast when compared to games like Path of Exile, I just reached level with my new character today after 6 hours of gameplay, and Torchlight.
The game started off strong with voice acting and sent me on a pretty cool tutorial, but fell off from there. The voice acting stopped after the tutorial and I had to read walls of uninteresting text to move on to the next mission. Every npc I ran into made funny sounds too and it was really distracting.
The quest themselves aren’t very impressive when compared to Diablo, or Path of Exile. They’re just fetch quest, and kill X amount of creatures until you’re blue in the face or your sword arm falls off.
One really neat feature about Devilian is turning into them. Once I completed my first dungeon I transformed into a Devilian. It looked really cool, but unfortunately I haven’t tested it out much yet to determine how useful they really are.
Another big problem with me was the gender locked classes. I can’t be a male magic user, or gunner because they’re gender locked. I thought we were pass that stage in MMO’s, but I guess I’m wrong since every new class Tera has introduced has been female only.
Devilian was fun, but after an hour I thought it was getting a little stale because of the lack of interesting content in the game. It’s only in open beta right now, but I doubt it’ll change. Another thing I don’t like is how casual the game feels when compared to Diablo, and Path of Exile. You don’t even have to walk around. You can just click the “auto path” button and it’ll walk for you to your next objective. Really guys? That’s a feature that I can do without.
Right now Devilian is a mixed bag for me. I don’t love it or hate it, but I’m not against returning to the game at a future time to see if gets any better then it is now.
