Dragon Quest Heroes First Impression

My first hour of Dragon Quest Heroes was a mixed bag, but I enjoyed it for the most part.

Dragon Quest Heroes is like Dynasty Warriors in an anime inspired world. The gameplay isn’t as fleshed out as the Dynasty Warriors series, or Hyrule Warriors, but it’s okay even though it’s a little clunky at times.

I ran game perfect on all the highest settings and the game looks pretty good, but it’s got nothing on games like Hyrule Warriors. I would put it slightly above the lastest Dynasty Warriors game though.

The story so far it as uninteresting as it could get and that surprised me since I really like Dragon Quest. I don’t expect it to pick up since this is a hack n slash game, but I was hoping I could get something surprising like Warriors Orochi 3. One thing I do like is the main hub. After each mission I’m transported back to camp to prepare for the next battle. I can talk to npcs, buy weapons, and do various other things here. I can even change characters, but so far I only have the male that started the game off with.

I think as time goes by I’ll start to like the game more then I do now, but for now it’s a mixed bag. Dragon Quest Heroes suffers from lack of multiplayer. I know the Dragon Quest series has always been single player, but there is no reason why this particular game shouldn’t have multiplayer since it has so much in common with Dynasty Warriors. It’s a major problem for me since games like this tend to be a little boring when played alone.

I’ll push on ahead because I think this game has the potential to be a hidden gem and I’m looking forward to testing out the other characters in the game.

I’ll have my review up soon.
