Top 10 Upcoming Games of 2016

Last year was a pretty good year for gaming. We got some really great games and this year seems to be no different. Here are my top 10 upcoming games of 2016.

10.  Doom

The new Doom game looks really good. I enjoyed the beta that I recently played, shortly before I got rid of my Xbox One, and it only made the wait for this game that much harder. Doom is a lot of fun, but I don’t like the fact that it’s not really a modern FPS game. I was hoping for something like Wolfenstein. This Doom game should be good, but probably won’t be great.

9. The Division

A few years ago this would have been in my top 3, but that was when I liked Ubisoft. I’m very skeptical about every title that they release these days, but I’ll be lying if I told you that I wasn’t looking forward to The Division. Here’s to hoping they don’t fuck it up.

8. Kingdom Under Fire II

Kingdom Under Fire has a special place in my heart. I remember playing it back on the original Xbox and Xbox 360 years ago. Kingdom Under Fire II, strange name considering there’s already a part 2, looks like a really great game, but I’m not completely sold on it. It does look really interesting though and here’s to hoping that it blows us away when it finally releases.

7. Mirror’s Edge Catalyst

I really loved the first Mirror’s Edge game. I was about to place this in the once in a lifetime experience category with Alan Wake because it had been so long since the game originally released I knew the chance for a sequel was slim. Well… the sequel is almost upon us and I’m really excited to have the chance to play as Faith again.

6. Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem

I know next to nothing about this game, but since I’m a fan of both Shen Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem I can’t help, but be excited at the ideal of a crossover between the two franchise. The 30 minute gameplay video that I watched made me drop this a few spots, but I still plan on getting it day one for the Wii U.

5. Quantum Break

This is probably going to be one of two reasons why I’ll regret getting rid of my Xbox One. Quantum Break looks amazing and it’s made by one of my favorite developers. I have high expectations for this game and I’m confident that Remedy Entertainment will deliver like they always do.

4. Xcom 2

Xcom Enemy Unknown was a fantastic game. It was hard, almost unfairly hard, and I lost earth more times then I care to admit, but I still loved it. I would just change my strategy and try again. Xcom 2 took everything from Enemy Unknown and refined it while adding in new features. This is one game that’s going to be a GOTY candidate for me.

3. Dark Souls III

You knew this game would make my list. I’m a Dark Souls nut and I plan on getting this game day one. Dark Souls III looks like it’s going to be the best one yet and I’m super hyped about it.

2. The Legend Of Zelda [Wii U]

This game is taking forever to release, but I’m pretty sure it’ll be releasing this year and when it does my social life will go on hiatus like it did with Fallout 4.

  1. Mass Effect Andromeda

Shepard’s story is over. The greatest three games I’ve ever played in my life has moved on to something new and I can’t wait to see what lies ahead in the Mass Effect Universe. It’s funny because I’m currently playing through the trilogy, again, while I wait for this game to be released. Here’s to hoping that this one is as good as the previous three.

Honorable mentiions:

Resident Evil 0

Scalebound

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD

Happy new year guys.

      1. That game would be on my to buy list if I got the console. I never finished the original though, so I wouldn’t want to buy a machine just for a title I may get bored of.

      2. I’ve never played the original, but I love the second one. I prefer games that I can create my own character over a set protagonist because it has more replay value in my opinion.

That, and running around in a giant mech is just awesome.

  1. I’m really hoping for Quantum Break to turn out to be another great game. I bet its changed a lot from what Remedy originally planned but the same happened to Alan Wake and that worked out brilliantly. 🙂

    1. Alan Wake is one of my all time favorite games. I no doubt that Remedy will deliver in Quantum Break. I’ll have to wait a little while to play it since I no longer own an X1, but I’ll get around to it eventually.

  2. Ah, so you made the jump and finally got rid of the ol’ Xbox One?

Kingdom Under Fire II is the only game on the list I’m unfamiliar with, but I’m definitely interested in the other 9. If Scalebound actually manages to release this year, that one’s high on my list–based purely on the co-op mode. The Division is up there as well for the same reason.

I’m with you, though. The Mass Effect trilogy holds a special place in my gaming heart, and I want Andromeda more than anything.

    1. I’ve always loved Kingdom Under Fire. I’m a huge fan, but I’m a little skeptical about this upcoming one because it’s an MMO and MMO’s based off known franchises are usually really bad.

Scalebound might release this year. If it does I’ll most likely pick up another X1 for that, and Quantum Break. Crackdown 3 is also on my list. My main reason for getting rid of the Xbox was the small HD, and lack of games at the moment. I’ll eventually get another one.

The funny thing is I’ve never gotten rid of a new console before.

      1. It happens sometimes. I sold my PS4 after 4 months because there was nothing I couldn’t just play on my XB1. I eventually picked it back up again for Bloodborne, FFXIV, MLB, and Until Dawn, but ended up using it mostly for Rocket League.

I’m really hoping Scalebound will allow co-op throughout the entire campaign, and not just some sort of tacked on dungeon mode or boss rush feature. I want a massive scale open world RPG like Dragon Age, but with full on co-0p.. that isn’t ESO.

      2. From what I’ve heard, and watched on Youtube, it seems like it’s taking a Dark Souls kind of approach to it’s multiplayer. I don’t think it’s just going to be a boss fight type of multiplayer system.
