X-files Premiere Review

After I watched the Carolina Panthers destroy the Arizona Cardinals I waited in excitement for the return of the X-files and… it wasn’t bad.

X-files is one of my all time favorite TV shows. I’ve watched the entire series on more then one occasion and I was really looking forward to this reboot of the series.

It started off pretty average. We saw Mulder filling us in on the events of the X-files and building up to something new. It was a okay opening scene and what followed was also okay. The opening scenes had us watching a giant spaceship crash land on Earth and the area was immediately surrounded by military forces.

From there it switched to the people we really wanted to see and that was Skully, and Mulder. I’m going to stop there because I don’t want to give out any spoilers to anyone that hasn’t watched the premiere yet. That’s kind of hard to do, but I’ll try my best.

The season premiere may have started off slow, but it did get better as the show progressed. I wish it was a bit longer because it felt rushed. It felt like they tried to fit a lot of content into a one hour episode and that made certain moments fall a bit flat. I love the new conspiracy that Mulder, and Skully have, unknowingly, gotten themselves into and I’m genuinely curious to see what happens on the next episode.

THE X-FILES: L-R: Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. The next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES debuts with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, Jan. 24 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/7:00-8:00 PM PT), following the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, and continuing with its time period premiere on Monday, Jan. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). The thrilling, six-episode event series, helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter and starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI Agents FOX MULDER and DANA SCULLY, marks the momentous return of the Emmy Award- and Golden Globe-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history. ©2015 Fox Broadcasting Co. I wish we would have had some more story content between Mulder, and Skully. It’s obvious that the spark between them is still there even though they’re not together anymore. They mentioned their kid a few times in the episode which is great in my opinion. We even got to see a brief conversation between Mulder, and Skinner. I wish they would have had a longer reunion, but I guess we’ll see more of that later.

The X-files premiere felt like your average X-files episode, which isn’t bad, but… I was expecting it to fire on all cylinders because it’s been so long since the show was regularly featured. Maybe my expectations were to high or maybe the premiere was just good when it could have been great if it was longer.

I love how tonight’s episode ended though. It was firing on all cylinders for the last 5-10 minutes and the trailer that I saw for tomorrow’s episode looked really awesome.

I’m glad the X-files is back. It’s been a long time and it’s obvious that David Duchovny, and Gillian Anderson enjoyed working with each other again. You can easily see the chemistry they had together on screen.

The Verdict:

The first episode started off slow, but got better as it progressed and I can’t wait for the next one. I think it should have been a little longer because some scenes could have used a few more minutes, but it was solid and it’s a good start to what is hopefully going to be a great X-files season.
