Bombshell Review

Do you want to play a buggy, boring, and stupid game? Then try out Bombshell!

Good:

Graphics:

The only thing that stood out in this game are the graphics. There is a good amount of graphical options for us to tweak to our liking. You’ll be surprised at how many PC games don’t include graphical options in their game. This was much appreciated. The graphics itself look really good in my opinion. Shelly looks good, the environments look good, and particles look good. Explosions look like they should and the rain outside the White House looked really great. This is one area of the game that was done really well. Unfortunately it’s the only area that was done really well.

Gameplay:

This is a arcade styled twin stick shooter with RPG elements. Don’t expect this game to give you the same type of quality you’ll get with games like Helldivers, or Hunter The Reckoning. The controls are floaty and takes some getting used to, but there’s something about throwing grenades that roll after enemies that puts a big smile on my face.

Shelly’s arm is her weapon. She can attach different weapons to her robotic arm. At first you’ll only have a tiny gun, but eventually you’ll have a minigun, shotgun, and even a flamethrower. It was fun experimenting with different weapons. Another neat thing that this game has are skills. As Shelly levels up you’ll be able to invest skill points in either her skills or her passive abilities. I mainly focused on upgrading my armor and then I focused on my skills.

It’s a pain in the ass navigating the menus. It’s really zoomed in and it’s really, really green.

The Bad:

User Interface:

This has to be one of the worst UI’s I’ve ever seen in all my years of gaming. Whenever I want to level up Shelly I have to look at this green, zoomed in screen that looks like it’s in 480p. It’s horrible and I think it gave me nightmares last night.

Shelly:

The main protagonist in this game is probably the worst part about the game. All Shelly does is shout horrible one liners over and over and over again until it’s burned into your brain. She’s a horribly written character and is full of cliches.

Story:

What’s the story about again? It’s something about saving the president from aliens. I can’t be sure because it’s so bad I literally forgot most of it already. If you think Shelly is a badly written character you haven’t scratched the surface of how bad this game really is. The writing in this  game is just awful. It’s like a five year old wrote it and the guy in the charge said, “that’s a great idea. Everyone lets roll with that!.”

Sounds:

The sound effects in this game aren’t that bad. Guns sound like they should and so do explosions, but the voice acting is the worst I’ve heard this year and last year combined. Shelly’s voice actress didn’t put any love into her role and neither did anyone else that participated in this game. Everyone time someone spoke I felt like throwing my computer through a window. That’s how bad it sounded.

The Verdict:

Bombshell won’t be remembered as anything more then a big failure because of all of the things that went wrong with this game. It’s buggy, is filled with horrible one liners, and has god awful voice acting. The gameplay is good, but it can’t compete with better games like Helldivers or even Halo Spartan Assault. There are better games that you spend your money on Bombshell and I highly recommend that you do so.
