Rise of The Tomb Raider First Impression

Here’s my first impression of my first three hours of Rise of The Tomb Raider.

I originally put off playing Rise of The Tomb to play Xcom 2 and I don’t regret that decision one bit. I do regret waiting so long to play this fantastic game though. I didn’t have very high expectations for Rise of The Tomb Raider when it announced.

I liked the first Tomb Raider game, but I did feel like it was over hyped and it fell way short of my expectations at the time. I ended up giving the game a 7 and I haven’t played it since. If you want to check out my review of the first Tomb Raider Reboot click here.

Rise of The Tomb Raider started off pretty good. It didn’t blow me away, but the graphics did. Rise of The Tomb Raider is one of the most beautiful games I’ve ever played. The world is filled with life and every little thing that I came across looked good. Usually I can find some muddy textures in a game like this. I found quite a few areas in The Witcher 3, but I couldn’t find any in Rise of The Tomb Raider.

I don’t have a opinion on the story right now because I haven’t made it very far into the game yet. The gameplay is where this game shines the most. It plays a lot better than the previous Tomb Raider game. The stealth mechanics in this game are amazing. Sneaking around enemies is fun because I get to wait for the perfect time to strike. This game is every bit as brutal as it’s predecessor and I reminded of that when a bear ripped my throat out.

I’m sorry Lara I was too slow :[
The customization is a lot better this time around too. I like that I can craft new outfits for Lara to wear instead of being stuck wearing the exact same thing for the entire game. In order to craft a new outfit I had to hunt down the necessary animals to make them. Hunting shit is fun as hell in this game. I went on a deer murder spree and collected a bunch pelts to upgrade my quiver and axes.

Rise of The Tomb Raider is really good. I haven’t experienced any bugs or FPS issues so far. I’m running the game on full ultra settings with environments turned down to high and I’m getting a constant 60 fps. When I turn environments up to very high I get about 40 so I decided to keep them at high since I really could see a huge difference between high and very high.

I’m definitely going to review this game when I finish it, but it might take a little while since I’m currently playing Batman Arkham Knight at the same time and I’m having all kinds of fun with Batman at the moment.
