Final Fantasy 14 A Realm Reborn First Impression

Since Black Desert turned out to be a major disappointment Lunaliah and I decided to try and find a new MMO to play so we brought Final Fantasy 14!

Final Fantasy 14 A Realm Reborn has been out for quite some time now and so far it’s pretty good. The first thing that noticed when I booted the game up was how great everything looks. The graphics in FF14 are fantastic and I’m running it on full ultra settings at 60fps.

The character creator is good, but not great in my opinion. I wished that we could have some facial hair to choose from, but the only thing I could choose was a little patch of hair on my chin so I decided to go with a clean shave.

My first character is a Pugilist. I kind of don’t like my class so far, but I’m hoping that as I keep playing it’ll start to grow on me. One neat feature that this game has is the class change system. I’m not sure when I’ll be able to change classes with my character, but I do know that I’ll be able to try out every class in the game with a single character so that’ll keep me from creating a million characters as I try and find my favorite one.

We’ve been playing for about three hours now and we’re only level 6. This game is filled with dialogue, cutscenes, and story content which is a major plus with me in MMOs. That’s the one thing Black Desert lacked and I’m glad FF14 has it, but I don’t know if I’ll stick around after my time expires. It depends on how much I fall in love with this game for the next month or two.

Right now I’m really enjoying it and I plan on sticking with this character for as long as I can. I kind of wish I would have choose the┬áThaumaturge as my first class, but it’s too late now I suppose. I might still go back and create one later on. The spear class looked really badass too, but since I wanted to start off in the same area as Lunaliah I was forced to choose from classes in her starting area.

One thing I think I should praise about this game is the soundtrack. It’s simply amazing and is one of the best soundtracks I’ve ever heard in any MMO. Every tune that plays just relaxes me and makes me want to stick around in the city until the song that’s playing ends.

I’m enjoying FF14 right now and that’s saying something since I’m a long time FF critic. I don’t love the series by any means, but even I will admit that this is a pretty good MMO so far and hopefully Lunaliah and I will make plenty of friends as we continue to play.

  1. Once you get your main class to 15 you can go to any of the other class trainers and pick up a quest to learn that class as well. The only downfall (if this is your first time playing) is that you’re limited to classes offered by your home city until you reach a point in the story quest that allows you to use an airship to travel to the other 2 cities. Since you’re pugilist, you can pick from thaumaturge (black mage) and gladiator (sword and shield tank) until you reach that point in the story.

Then it’s as simple as swapping weapons — changing from your pugilist’s fist weapons to a spear would switch you to lancer, for instance. Thankfully FFXIV lets you save gear sets on your character screen, so a simple click of the mouse is all it takes.

Lancer becomes Dragoon, which is my main. It’s really, really fun.

    Have fun in Eorzea

    1. Thanks for the info :). I’m level 10 right now and i’ve started to like my class after getting a few more skills. This game is pretty addicting so far
