I had no idea things were so bad with the modding community between console/PC gamers. Here’s my take on it.
Ever since Bethesda announced modding for consoles I’ve seen some pretty stupid comments from people. Some people simply say something like, “finally!” while others write paragraphs of arguments stating why consoles are now superior to PCs.
This whole thing that’s happening between mod authors and console gamers is stupid. Console gamers have went as far as to threaten mod authors for not releasing content on consoles. They’ve even created Nexus profiles and spammed mod authors PM [private messages] with different insults and threats.
I’m not claiming that mod authors are saints. There are some jackasses out there that expect everyone to know as much about modding as they do and some of them, very few of them in my experience, are rude, but the majority of them are actually really cool people. When I was writing my Top 5 weekly Skyrim mods article I let the majority of the mod authors know that I was featuring their mods on my blog and they thanked me for it. Some of them even featured my article on their mod front page.
What’s going on here is childish. Who are you to tell someone else what they should do with something that created for free in their own time? Mod authors are not paid for their work. Everything they do is in their own free time. Some of them manage school and a full time job on top of modding. Who are we to demand that they do something that they don’t want to do? Consoles will not ever have as robust a modding community as PC. You need to understand that and accept it.
Consoles will never get ENBs, nude mods, and most graphics mods because they would struggle to run them with the exception of the nude mods. I don’t think Bethesda can publicly support adding naked bodies to their game. Another thing console gamers need to realize is it’s the mod authors choice whether or not they’ll choose to upload their created content to console. What if the mod author doesn’t own a Xbox One and doesn’t want to move their mod over to a platform that they can’t manage their content? The same can be said about the Playtation 4 when it finally gets mods.
Insulting people will never get you what you want. It’ll do the opposite actually. Mod authors are talking about never making console mods at all. Do you want that? Modding is a lot of fun and community is great. Don’t try and make it toxic because a few of you, I’m giving you all the benefit of the doubt here, don’t like having limited access to mods. If you want to have full control of modding your game get a PC. You’ll most likely never have as many options as a PC gamer when it comes to modding your game.
Demanding a mod author to create a particular mod for you is also ridiculous. If you a particular mod for your game create it yourself or give up on it.
All of this negativity that’s happening on the Nexus and on Bethesda’s forums is childish. Grow up and accept the fact that the world doesn’t revolve around you and wait for the release of the official mods for console. Accept that it won’t have as many mods as the Nexus and move on. If mod authors decide to give you access to their mods then great. If not move on and choose another mod to download.
This is just my opinion on the subject. I was very surprised that this was happening in the modding community because it’s always been a pretty good place to visit in my opinion. Some of my best moments in Skyrim was created by other people for me to enjoy and I appreciate the amount of effort that’s gone into creating that content for me to enjoy. No one has any rights to demand anything of them and that’s why I wrote this.
I’m pretty sure it’s the vocal minority that’s causing all of this drama, but that doesn’t make it right and I’m not insulting console gamers because I used to be one.
I would love for mods to go to console, but all of this kid shit needs to stop.
