Mass Effect 3’s Multiplayer is Still Populated and Really Good

It’s been years since I’ve played the multiplayer portion of Mass Effect 3. I was surprised at how easy it was for me to find a match and how well it still plays.

Mass Effect 3 was my go to multiplayer game back in the day. Teaming up with friends and going up against the Reaper forces was fun. Grinding for better characters to use was equally fun and challenging on higher difficulties.

I don’t know what made me want to play Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer again, but I reinstalled it on my PC and jumped into a few matches. Two hours later I was still gunning down Geth, Cerberus, Reapers, and the Collectors. I choose my Turian engineer and demolished everything in my path with my homing grenades and turret.

Finding a match wasn’t hard at all. I thought I would have to wait for people to join me and longest I’ve waited was about a minute before people started joining my group. When I didn’t feel like waiting I jumped in a match solo and people eventually joined me there as well. It was fun playing in a four man group and I’m currently trying to get back into the swing of things. I wonder if I can still take on the Gold difficulty? I might need to practice some more first because I was struggling on the Silver difficulty.

Mass Effect 3 is a fantastic game and it’s made better by it’s multiplayer in my opinion. If you’re a regular reader of my blog you’ll know that the Mass Effect games are my favorite games of all time. I don’t know if I’m going to replay the trilogy again yet, but for now I’m fine playing the multiplayer in Mass Effect 3.

I have no idea how active the console versions are.

  1. I have ME3 on Xbox. Never played the MP as I am not keen on jumping into small coop games, being afraid that I would let down the team. I love the idea of building up a character to make it into a war asset, even though it is completely abstract and not necessary to complete the SP campaign.

    1. I understand where you’re coming from about holding the team back in multiplayer games. I’ve never had bad experiences in ME3’s multiplayer. Everyone is nice and willing to teach new multiplayer people what to do. If you stick with the team you’ll probably never die. It’s a fun addition to the game without taking away from the single player.

  2. Everyone shat on the multiplayer before it came out, but I really, really enjoyed it, it was a lot of fun.
