Champions of Anteria (Demo) First Impression

I had fun with the demo for Champions of Anteria.

Champions of Anteria plays a lot like old school cRPG games of yesteryear. If you’ve played Pillars of Eternity or the old Baldur Gates games you’ll know what to expect in Champions of Anteria. Anteria isn’t as deep, or enjoyable, as the games that I mentioned, but it does have better gameplay.

Everything is so responsive and easy to do in this game. It was a pleasant surprise because I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this title simply because I don’t really like any of the main protagonist. Ubisoft relies on comedy to tell the story in this game and honestly it’s all a big miss with me. The reason why I didn’t love Divinity is because it treated everything like a big joke instead of trying to tell a good story.

The graphics are really nice, but won’t wow anyone. It’s definitely one of the better looking cRPGs out there. The soundtrack, so far, isn’t very memorable to me and the voice acting is terrible.

The demo wasn’t very long, but what little I played has convinced me to buy this at some point. I can see myself dropping $10-15 on this, but no $30. The gameplay is good, but it lacks depth when compared to other games in the genre, but it does have potential and I’m not against playing some more of it.

Champions of Anteria is available on Steam for $29.99 and Uplay for the same price.
