Hit or Miss – September/October

I decided to bring back my hit or miss series. I’ve chosen some games to showcase in this month’s edition of hit or miss. I’ve included a few October games too.

Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade (PC)

I’ve been trying to get into the Warhammer universe, but this game makes me want to rethink that decision. Nothing I’ve seen on it makes me want to buy it for $40. It’s a MMO/multiplayer shooter that doesn’t offer anything unique except “Warhammer 40k factions”. It’s in early access right now on Steam and is expected to release on the 23rd of this month.

Verdict:

Miss

Forza Horizon 3 (PC)

I’ve never played a Forza Horizon game so I’m pretty excited about this one. I no longer own a console and when I learned that Microsoft was being stupid, again, and sharing all of their exclusives with Windows 10 gamers I added this game on my list of “to buy eventually” games.

This would be a instant day one purchase for me if it was coming to Steam. Hopefully it will come to steam, like Quantum Break, and I’ll be able to buy it.

Verdict:

Buy If It Comes To Steam

Darkest Dungeon (PS4)

Darkest Dungeon is a really good game. It’s been out on PC since it was a early access title. PS4 users will have a chance to experience this game for the first time and I highly recommend it. Darkest Dungeon is hard and will punish you for making mistakes, but it’s a really fun game that has a lot of replay value.

Verdict:

Hit

Sonic Boom: Fire&Ice (3DS)

I was one of the many to voice my displeasure at the last Sonic Boom game, but I’ll admit that this one looks alright. It actually plays like a real Sonic game and, most importantly, the performance looked really solid when I saw it in action. I don’t know if I’ll buy this when it releases, but it’s on my radar and that’s good enough for now.

Verdict:

Undecided

Xcom 2 (Consoles)

XCOM2_Slums_Sectopod_1.0

Xcom 2 is a fantastic game. It’s still my game of the year and by the way things are going that probably won’t change. I don’t expect the console version to play as well as it’s PC counterpart, but that shouldn’t take away too much enjoyment from the game. Xcom 2 is hard, and will punish you for making the tiniest of mistakes. I highly recommend it.

Yo-Kai Watch 2 Bony Spirits/Fleshy Souls (3DS)

The first Yo-Kai Watch game was good. It wasn’t great, but it had a lot of potential. The second game looks a lot better and is probably going to find it’s way to my 3DS game library at the end of the month.

Verdict:

Hit

Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide (Consoles)

2897715-bright_wizard_screenshot_002This is another game that’s been on PC for decent amount of time. If you like games like Left for Dead you’ll probably love this game. End Times is a Warhammer version of Left for Dead and it’s a lot of fun. I highly recommend this one console gamers.

Mafia III (PC)

I know some people that are really excited about Mafia III. I’m not one of them. The game looks pretty good, but I’m still not sold on it. I think this might be one of those games that I get on a deep Steam sale.

Verdict:

Wait For a Sale

This wraps up this month’s edition of Hit or Miss. This was a pretty positive list when compared to my previous ones. What games are you interested in?

  1. I’m actually interested in picking up Yo-kai Watch 2. I had an okay experience with the first one, but I hear the second one’s better. I like the franchise in general, so it’s hard to not get the sequel!

    1. I’m definitely getting Yo-Kai Watch 2. I agree with your opinion on the first game too. It was good, but not great. I hope part 2 makes me a die hard fan of the series.
