Penguin United Wireless Gaming Headset Review (PC/PS4)

A good gaming headset can make your gaming experience so much better and even enhance the sounds that you hear. The Penguin United Headset is my first wireless gaming headset. Is it worth the price I paid for it?

I wanted to get a decent wireless headset to go along with my wireless mouse without breaking the bank and I came across this one on Ebay for a little under $50. This headset gave me a hard time before I even had a chance to experience what my game sounded like. Syncing this thing took multiple tries and it wouldn’t work on PC for the longest time. After I got it to work and Immediately loaded up Skyrim and started to play it. One thing that I’ve noticed whenever I use this headset for anything is a constant beeping sound that never goes away. It’s one really long beep and I have no idea how to fix it.

I don’t know if my headset is faulty, but it’s been happening to me since it arrived at my door. The headset itself looks pretty cool. There’s a cute penguin logo on the side of one of the headphones and there’s a volume control on the other side. I don’t like the volume control on the side because I’m used to using my other headset that allows me to adjust the volume from the wire attached to it, but it’s not a major issue for me. My biggest issue is the constant beeping in my ear while wearing this headset.

Every game that I’ve tried while wearing this headset sounds… okay. It’s not the best quality and it’s not the worst either. Honestly I’ve gotten the same quality out of a pair of $15 headphones that I’ve brought from Walgreens. I was never wowed or even remotely blown away by the sound quality of this headset. The only great thing I can really say about it is the fact that it’s wireless and I don’t have to fuck around with any cords while I’m gaming anymore. I’ve actually gone back to my previous headset. It just does everything better than this one, but I do still use this when I’m watching a Youtube video or a movie, but if I want to do some serious gaming I know which headset I’ll be using in the future.

The mic feels really cheap and flimsy, but it’s surprisingly sturdy. It’s a step down from my other two mics that I have and I think it catches too much background noise. I rarely used the microphone with this headset. Whenever I wanted to make a Skype call or play some online games I went with my usual setup.

This headset is also advertised as a bluetooth device, but it doesn’t work like one. The only device that I can use this on is my PC.

The Verdict:

I wasn’t expecting much from a cheap wireless headset. It’s originally priced for $60 and I don’t recommend getting it for the price. It’s nice that it’s a wireless headset, but the sound quality is just okay and I expected a little more than that from it.

    1. Lol. I could live without that beeping. I’ve noticed that my ears hurt even after I put the headset down. I’ve decided to not use it anymore. The last time I used this headset was when I wrote this review.
