Games I Brought From Various Winter Sales

So far this year has not been kind to my wallet. I’ve brought a bunch of games from various winter sales and my big backlog has gotten a little bigger.

Steam Purchases:

Stardew Valley – $10

I’ll start with my favorite game that I’ve purchased during the Steam winter sale. Stardew Valley is pretty much Harvest Moon on PC. It’s different enough to not be called a clone, but even if it was it’s still a fantastic game. I can’t believe I waited so long to play this gem.

WWE 2K16 – $8

I used to be a wrestling fanatic when I was younger. Most of my favorite wrestlers have retired so I no longer watch/play the latest shows or games. 2K16 will be my first wrestling title since Smackdown vs Raw on the Playstation 3.

Fallout 4 Season Pass – $25

I finally got my hands on Fallout 4’s season pass, but I haven’t touched it yet. I’ve been so addicted to Stardew Valley that I put everything on hold to focus on playing that for now. I can’t wait to experience everything in this season pass though. Bethesda is known to make some fantastic DLCs for their games.

Origin Purchases:

Titanfall 2 – $35

I went a little over my set price for Titanfall 2, but I don’t regret it on bit. I took a big leap of faith when I purchased this game and it paid off. Titanfall 2 is better than it’s predecessor in every way imaginable. It’s too bad that it sold so poorly on release.

Star Wars Battlefront Season Pass – $20

This is another game that I really wanted to purchase DLCs for. Star Wars Battlefront started off as a above average game, but it’s turned into a pretty great one over time.  I haven’t put a great amount of time into everything yet, but so far I’m really loving it.

Origin Access

I ended up spending $10 on two separate Origin access accounts. My wife and I downloaded Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 and so far it’s giving Titanfall 2 a run for it’s money as my favorite shooter of the year. I also tried to play Mirror’s Edge 2, but ended up uninstalling it. I don’t know why they decided to make it open world, but I enjoyed the first one a lot more. The performance issues also annoyed me. I might reinstall it, but I have other games to focus on for now.

Other Purchases:

New Super Mario Bros U – $28

I got this for Lunaliah for Christmas and she’s been pretty addicted to it too. I played with her, but only on world 1 and it’s a pretty awesome Mario game so far.

Castlevania Portrait of Ruin – $24

I’m on a mission to play/review a bunch of Castlevania games this year and I had to add this game to my collection. Right now I’m still making my way through Aria of Sorrow, but this one is next on my list.

I’m eyeing Don’t Starve Together, but I’m not sure if I’m going to pick up just yet because I’ve already brought a lot of games. WWE 2K16 was a leap of faith for me so I’m glad I found it so cheap. If I love it I’ll consider buying the newer one in the series. What games did you pick up from the winter sales?

  1. I miss the handheld 2D metroidvania games. Damn you Konami. Stardew Valley is on my radar, but I fear that if I buy it the game will eat up all my free time. Doing chores to improve your farm can get addictive.

    1. Stardew Valley is so addictive. I can easily put 100 hours into just feeding my chickens and shit.

I’ve been playing through Aria of Sorrow lately. I really miss playing the old Castlevania games. Bloodstained Ritual of the Night is being worked on by the producer/director of the Castlevania series. So far it looks really good. You should look that up if you’re into Castlevania.

  2. Looks like you got some great deals there! I’ve heard a lot about Stardew Valley – is it something you can pick up and play in small doses or does it require a fair commitment to play?

    1. You can play in small or long burst. Every time I say I’ll play for 30 minutes it turns into two hours though. Stardew Valley is a really relaxing game to play in my opinion.
