Hollow Knight just released on Steam yesterday and it’s a pretty good metroidvania bug game.
Imagine that you’re playing Castlevania, but instead of fighting off Dracula’s army you’re fighting off a legion of bugs with a badass looking protagonist that is shrouded in mystery. That’s what Hollow Knight is and it’s pretty damn good. There’s not much to the story so far. I’m about 2 hours in the game and I still have no idea what’s going on. I think this was done on purpose though. Think of the story like Dark Souls.
There’s a little bit of Dark Souls in this game. When I died for the first time I expected to see a game over screen or something, but I didn’t. Instead I made my way back to where I died and fought my shadow. Once I killed my shadow I got all of my money back. The gameplay is great. If you’ve ever played Castlevania you’ll have a good idea of how this game plays. You jump from platform to platform while dodging traps, killing enemies, and collecting loot.
I’ve fought two bosses so far and it took a different strategy to kill both of them. They weren’t hard, but they were very entertaining to fight and the way they died was pretty funny too. Hollow Knight is like a throwback Castlevania game with a fantastic art style. If you’ve never heard of Hollow Knight I recommend checking it out. It’s not very expensive. I got my copy for $14.99 on Steam. It’s well worth the price already when you think about how much content in this game.
Have you tried out Hollow Knight? If you haven’t are you interested in buying it?
