Lets Talk About Xbox Scorpio!

Microsoft’s newest console will release later this year and my hype for it is at a all time low. I’m just not interested in the console for multiple reasons.

The last time I wrote about the Xbox brand was back in January. My feelings hasn’t changed much since then and I’m here to shed some light on what Microsoft is calling the Xbox Scorpio.

Since It’s Not Getting It’s Own Exclusive Games Will It Still Share All of It’s Library With PC?

Microsoft has been calling the Xbox Scorpio the most powerful console ever made and they’ve released some specs on it. I’m not here to go over those because everyone already knows what Microsoft is claiming that it has. What I’m here to do is ask the big question to Microsoft. You have some decent specs there, but what about your games? You can have the most powerful console ever made and I’ll still rather own a Nintendo Switch over your console because it has games… well… it will have games by the time your console releases :).

The only thing Microsoft has been doing has been teasing how powerful their console is, but has yet to show off any good games. Halo Wars 2, State of Decay 2, Dead Rising 4, and Sea of Thieves are coming to the Xbox One this year while Fable Legends, Scalebound, and Project Spark all got cancelled within a short span of each other. I’m not interested in any of the four games that have, or is going to release for Xbox. I know E3 isn’t happening for a few more months, but with this whole share program that Xbox has going on why should I bother to care about it’s upcoming “exclusives”?

Why Should I Buy This Console Over The PS4 Pro?

I plan on getting my first Playstation 4 console later this year and my friends and I often talk about the differences between the PS4, and Xbox One. The big thing that keeps us away from the console are the lack of exclusive games on it. The Xbox One isn’t worth owning if you have good PCs and all of us here are lucky enough to have some. Even if I didn’t own a PC I still wouldn’t be very interested in the Xbox because the only great exclusive it has is Forza. Everything else is mediocre at best.

I’m finally interested in the Playstation 4 and I have a list of games that I want for the console. Every game that I want can’t be gotten anywhere else and I’m even considering buying some third party games for the console too because some games just play better on console than PC. I’ll have a nice 1080p console that can give me solid fps over the Xbox One without sacrificing resolution. The PS4 also has access to more games than the Xbox One. Some great Indies has made it’s way to the PS4 and I would be willing to buy games like Salt and Sanctuary again just to play it on console.

Games like Dynasty Warriors, and the Atelier series will also play much better on console than PC since I’ll have access to a controller because Koei sucks at making PC ports right now. Games like Samurai Warriors are only found on Playstation 4/PC right now.

Your Powerful Console Is Nice, But My PC Is Better

I don’t need a 4K gaming console that’s probably going to struggle to do true 4K gaming just like the PS4 Pro. If I wanted a 4K gaming machine I’ll save up for the new 1080 ti and call it a day. My games run smooth at over 60fps on Ultra settings most of the time. The fps dips I usually get are from heavily modded games, like Skyrim, or games with performance issues. I buy consoles for games, but to avoid repeating myself I’ll just leave it at that.

I know none of this will go over well with Xbox fanboys, but honestly it’s pretty clear that the Xbox brand isn’t what it once was. I used to be a huge Xbox fanboy. I loved the original Xbox, and Xbox 360 to death, but even I have to admit that the Playstation is a much better console right now. This is Sony’s game to lose right now and they’re knocking it out the park with games like Nioh, and Nier.

Are you interested in a Xbox Scorpio? Will you buy one on day one?

  1. I’ll likely upgrade to Scorpio but only if I can finally replace my old HDTV with a 4K screen too. After seeing how much nicer games look on my PC with a good screen I have some hope it’ll be worth it. Elite Dangerous could definitely benefit from it. 🙂

Horizon might be the only Sony title I’d miss right now (I don’t miss the controllers though) but it’s also true that MS really need to pull out a few more surprises to get more people excited to upgrade.

  2. I think the most relevant point is your first. It doesn’t matter how powerful it is, there needs to be a reason to pick it up. And making the previous games look prettier or run a little better isn’t a good enough reason. Here’s hoping they have an ace up their sleeve!

    1. I hope they do have a ace up their sleeve. I don’t mind owning every console :). I hope they blow us away at E3, but I highly doubt that’s going to happen.

  3. I haven’t paid much attention to gaming news, so I only vaguely knew that the Scorpio was coming. I liked the 360, but I’ve always really been a Sony guy. I don’t see that changing, for the main reasons you stated 🙂

    1. I’m the opposite. I was a hardcore Xbox guy before I got into PC gaming :). I’m impressed with the PS4 a lot more than the X1 these days.
