I finally purchased Nier Automata last night and I’m here to talk about it. So… lets talk about Nier Automata!
Nier: Automata is considered by many people to be a game of the year candidate. I’ve heard about how great this game is from just about everyone I know since it’s release. I’ve heard about how deep the story, characters, and gameplay is and I agree with one of those. I’ve played three hours of this game so far and I don’t care what’s going on with anyone. The voice acting is really good, the soundtrack is amazing, and the gameplay is what we would expect from Platinum Games, but I do have some issues with it right now.
The story couldn’t be more uninteresting to me right now. The beginning of this game bored me to death. Why should I care about 2B’s sacrifice at the beginning of this game? You didn’t give me a reason to. The characters don’t interest me at all. 2B has about as much personality as a rock and is a stereotype too. Her sidekick (forgot his name already) is just as boring.
The meat of this game is in it’s gameplay, but I do have some problems with that too. I love how fast paced it is, but I don’t like the open world. Why does everything need to be open world? There’s not shit to do in the world itself. It’s just there to be there while I run from point A to B. I’m incredibly disappointed in Nier Automata right now. This game made my top 10 most anticipated games of the year and it’s nowhere near as good as I hoped it would be.
I don’t hate everything about this game at the moment. The gameplay makes up for the lack of story/characters right now, but I don’t know how much further I’ll bother playing before I get bored and move on to something else. I really like the fast paced gameplay. Chaining up combos is nice and I enjoy jumping around the battlefield and laying waste to everything around me.
I really hope this game gets better as I continue playing it. I think I’m done for the day though. I’ll pick up again some time this weekend… or next weekend.
What do you think of Nier: Automata? Do you like it?
