Lets Talk About Bravely Second!

I was in Gamestop the other day buying my kids a new game when I stumbled upon this game. Since I didn’t feel like paying $50 for the first game I decided to start with this one. Here’s what I think so far.

Bravely Second (I think it’s a stupid name for a sequel) is the sequel to Bravely Default. Bravely Default is considered one of the best 3DS games of all time. I honestly never cared enough about it to buy it, but since I’m getting back into JRPGs I decided to go ahead and buy this game.

I’m glad I did because it’s pretty good so far. I’m only about three hours in (I think) and I’m about level 6. I just unlocked my first class and I’m really enjoying the gameplay, graphics, voice acting, and story. I really like that the main story is voice acted. I had no idea this game had voice acting and I’m surprised that it’s actually pretty good. It’s not the best voice acting I’ve ever heard in a game, but it gets the job done and I don’t have to read a wall of text :). The gameplay is where this game shines. It’s your classic turn based combat, but different. I’ll go into more details on that in my review of the game.

The story is a little confusing for me to follow, but that’s because I didn’t play through the first game. This game seems to continue where that one left off. I might end up putting this game down until I can find the first game for a acceptable price. The art style in this game is amazing. I love the sprites, and different locations that I’ve been to so far.

I really like Bravely Default. The beginning of this game was funny, has good characters, nice voice acting, and interesting story. I really want to know what happens next, but I’m not sure if I should finish it or wait until after I buy the first game. I’ll probably just play through this one and play the first whenever I can.

What do you think of Bravely Second? Did you like it?

  1. I really liked Bravely Default, but even though I have Bravely Second, I haven’t played much of it. I liked the original cast chemistry, so maybe I’m just not used to this cast yet.

  2. I liked Bravely Second a lot. It actually came third in my Top 5 games of 2016. The game really proves that old school RPGs can still work in the modern era.

The first game is good too, although I suspect it will piss you off because the later chapters in Bravely Default get repetitive.
