Lets Talk About Sony’s E3 Press Conference!

I enjoyed Sony’s approach to this year’s E3. It was a no bullshit, or gimmick and just games approach. And I enjoyed it…

I didn’t expect much from Sony this year and I didn’t get much. Sony is in a great position right now and they don’t have to go all out on E3 like Microsoft because they’ve been releasing good games all year long. Most of the games that were shown didn’t interest me, but, just like with my other reviews, I’m writing the pros and cons of tonight’s show.

Lets start with what I liked

Monster Hunter World Is Real And It’s Coming To Both Consoles And PC!

Holy shit! Capcom actually gave us what we’ve been wanting for years. Monster Hunter is coming to every platform and it looks glorious. This was my favorite showing of the night and it’s one of the few games that surprised me since I’ve been watching E3. I never expected to see another Monster Hunter game outside of Nintendo platforms and I’m really excited for this. I would like to see this be announced for the Switch too though.

I’m Actually Interested In A God of War Game

This one was unexpected. I do not like any of the previous God of War games, but I’m really digging this one. I like the focus on it’s story and the combat seems serviceable enough to let me just focus on the story. I’m definitely buying a PS4 Pro this holiday season.

Spider Man Could Be The Best Superhero Game Ever Made

Spider Man looked really good. It was really scripted, but I’m very interested in it. It’s beautiful, the gameplay, except the QTEs that I saw I hated them, looked great, and I don’t think Peter Parker is Spider Man this time around. That’s a good thing by the way. I really want this game and I can’t wait for it’s release!

Now lets get to what I didn’t like about the press conference

Destiny 1.5

Destiny 2 was shown off and the exclusive Sony content was announced. It wasn’t anything small like exclusive weapons or armor. It was a exclusive strike and that’s a pretty major thing in my opinion. Exclusivity in a game like this hurts everyone that doesn’t play it on the PS4. I won’t be buying this game on the PC because it’s pretty much guaranteed to lack in content at launch. I’ll just wait for Anthem :).

Marvel Vs Capcom Had A Poor Showing

I love fighting games and Capcom is known for making some of the best ones around, but I don’t like what I saw tonight. I know they’re trying to push the fact that this game actually has a story that’s centered around Mega Man, but I just don’t care for it. Just give us a Mega Man game…

And what the fuck is up with the poor character models in this game?

I Saw Way Too Many FPS Games Tonight…

Destiny 2, Call of Duty WWII, and some VR bullshit was shown off and I had to make myself watch through it all. A good majority of the conference was mediocre and I didn’t care for what I was watching and I just wanted it to get back to the interesting games. The VR games in general just looked bad to me and did nothing to make me want to rush out and spend $400 on their fancy PSVR bullshit.

Days Gone Looked Really Roughed Around The Edges

People want to shit on Andromeda’s animations and I was here laughing at how bad the animations in this game were tonight. It’s okay though because it’s not EA showing the game and people will still buy it :). Jokes aside, this game just looks bad. I’m really not interested in playing another zombie game with shitty animations.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Made Me Want To Wait For The Next Tomb Raider Game.

Uncharted is considered the male version of Tomb Raider by my friends and I. This game did nothing to make me want to become a fan of this series and I’ll rather wait for Lara Croft’s next adventure.

No Bloodborne 2 😦

I was hoping for Bloodborne 2. I joked on Twitter that if Sony would announce Bloodborne 2 then they would win E3 automatically unless Nintendo announced Pokemon. Well… it didn’t happen and I’m sad now…

This isn’t really a negative. I’m still sad though…

And here’s what I’m undecided on

I’m Not Sure What To Think of Detroit Become Human

I like games that have nice choices to make in them, but I didn’t really see anything in this game that would make me want to play it. What exactly is the gameplay like in this game? I saw a bunch of story decisions and they were cool, but if the game is boring to play I won’t want to take part in it. I need to see more before I make up my mind.

The Verdict:

There was a lot I didn’t like about tonight’s show, but at least it was better than the Xbox conference. That’s not hard to do, but I did walk away from this more excited to own a PS4 than Xbox One. The exclusives that I saw here weren’t just Indies. They were full AAA quality games that appealed to me and I’m really excited to play them one day.

C+

What did you think of Sony’s conference tonight?

    1. I’m usually never impressed by Sony or Microsoft so this is the norm for me lol. I’m usually much more interested in other companies because of the nice third party games.

I missed the Ubisoft press conference, but I hear it’s the best one by far.

  1. I didn’t watch the full thing yet, but skimmed through the highlights, I liked what I saw. I was totally not expecting a Monster Hunter game, especially on PC!!! Honestly, I don’t know if I would get it on those platforms over Nintendo ones. The Switch one still has me most excited for being portable. But it’s still nice for those who aren’t committed to Nintendo platforms. I think it’s a cool franchise that can be brought to many more gamers and this is the best way to do it.
