What I’ve Been Up To

I finally moved into a new home and we’re without Internet at the moment. We have to wait until September 5th just to get our services back and I feel like I’m living in the stone age :(. I like the new area that we moved into. It’s quiet, clean, and there’s no police sirens going off every ten minutes. I almost forgot what peace and quiet felt like and I’m in love with this place so far.

Moving was a pain in the ass for me. I’m currently battling a bad cold. I have a fever that I can’t break and I don’t remember the last time I was this stressed out. Most of the stress is normal parent stuff. My girls are supposed to be in school, but the move pushed everything back by a month. Instead of starting on August 14th they’ll be starting around September 15th so they’re missing a month.

The school is being very generous with us though. They understand our moving situation and are holding their spots open until we get things situated over here.

Being without Internet sucks a lot. I’m not used to living without it. I’ve been spending a lot of time on my 3DS lately. I played through Pokemon Moon again and I’m currently playing through Monster Hunter Generations. I’m focusing on the single player stuff since I have no Internet and my hunter looks like a badass right now. I’m also playing through Fallout 4 and Mass Effect Andromeda again. Sara Ryder has grown on me and I like her now. Her voice actress isn’t bad at all once you leave the first planet. I’m glad I decided to mod Fallout 4 before I lost my Internet. It’s keeping me sane right now :). I have about 70 gigabytes of mods on Fallout 4.

I completed Sonic Mania and I’m working on my review, but the slow ass WiFi here is making it incredibly difficult for me to write my review. It takes forever to upload a single picture to WordPress. I might just wait until next month to review it or I might just drop a picture-less review of the game. I haven’t decided yet.

Mario+Rabbids releases in a few days and I really want that game. I’m considering it for the Switch since I’m done with Sonic. I have about 36 hours in Disgaea 5 and counting. Since I completed Sonic Mania it’s the only game I’ve been playing on the Switch. It just keeps getting better and better. I love it and it’s still my game of the year followed by Mass Effect Andromeda.

I probably won’t start writing regularly again until I get my Internet back. I can’t deal with this shitty WiFi on a daily basis.

What have you been up to?

  1. We’re considering moving as well. Too much BS in the state I’m living in.

As for being without Internet, you should consider some philosophical words that can go a long way from the novel Dune (currently doing a blog series on that).

And he realized with an abrupt sense of shock that he had been giving more and more reliance to prescient memory and it had weakened him for this particular emergency.
“If you rely only on your eyes, your other senses weaken.” It was a Bene Gesserit axiom.

This message can extend beyond the senses, just relying on a particular piece of technology can prove just as disastrous. All the more reason why I prefer games that don’t require an Internet connection. But nevermind that, it could be worse. You could wind up without electricity for an extended period of time. What then? I have 2 suggestions: books and board games. Much less speaking with people in-person (even though I myself have a hard time with that).

  2. Well done on the move! Always as stressful time that is. I’m glad you’re local school is being understanding as well. I appreciate how awkward it can be for families moving house and school and the potential loss of time so it’s great that they’re being on side with you.

  3. Man, the wait to get services back sucks. When we moved into out current palce, we were told that it would take two weeks to get TV back, another week after that for telephone and another three after that for the internet. In the end, we changed providers for internet and phone. Still, glad to hear it’s a good area.
