Lets Talk About Assassin’s Creed Origins!

The last 10 hours of my life have gone into the latest installment in the longrunning Assassin’s Creed franchise and in just that short amount of time I have no problems with calling this the best Assassin’s Creed game ever made.

I’m not an Assassin’s Creed fan. I’ve played just about all of them, but only bothered to complete three of them. Black Flag, Brotherhood, and the first game in the series. Origin looks like it’ll be the fourth game that I play from start to finish. Ubisoft completely revamped Assassin’s Creed with this game. It’s more of an RPG now and that’s not a bad thing at all. It’s actually a great thing! They’ve clearly been influenced by all of the latest open-world RPGs like The Witcher 3 and even by their own Far Cry series.

The biggest change is the gameplay. The boring combat from previous Assassin’s Creed games is gone. It sort of has a Witcher feel to it. I’m dodging, chaining up strikes, and using everything in my arsenal to defeat my enemies. You’re either going to love the change to the gameplay or hate it. Customization has been a thing in the last few Assassin’s Creed games, but this one took it further. I can loot my enemies for their weapons, buy different outfits from a tailor, and even buy new mounts to ride on.

Another huge change is the way Ubisoft decided to populate this game. Gone are the endless collectibles that have plagued every Ubisoft open world game to date. Well… they’re still there, but this game has a fully fleshed out questing system. It’s not The Witcher 3 kind of deep, but it’s not Risen bad either. I’m only 10 hours in so that could always change. The true highlight of this game is the world that Ubisoft has built for us to explore. I’ve never been to Egypt so I can’t comment on if it’s a true reimagining of ancient Egypt or not, but man this game is beautiful. And, as far as FPS goes, it’s well optimized. I am having some audio issues with the game even with my kickass headset. I have to strain my ears to hear the dialogue. The only fix I’ve found (thanks, Steve!) is by alt+tabbing out of the game and changing my audio device and then alt+tabbing back in. My volume isn’t super loud like I want it, but I can enjoy my game now.

I’m playing on PC and I haven’t had any issues with my FPS. The anti-Denuvo (or should I say DRM in general) has been very outspoken about this game on Steam and Reddit. Yes, there are two different kinds of DRM in this game. No, it doesn’t impact performance at all. Upgrade your potato and maybe the game will run better for you.

I’m really enjoying Assassin’s Creed Origins. It’s great. I love exploring the massive world, completing side quests, and ignoring the boring as hell future bits. Seriously though… why is that part of the game?

What do you think of Assassin’s Creed Origins? Do you like the new direction the series is going in?

  1. I once loved Assassin’s Creed but it got “meh” for me and I haven’t played after it Unity. This one looks so good and I love ancient Egypt themes! I hope I get to play it soon 🙂

    1. I was never big on Assassin’s Creed, but it did go downhill after Black Flag in my opinion. Origins is the best of them all in my opinion. Hopefully you’ll get to play it soon :).

  2. I’ve heard nothing but great things about Assassin’s Creed Origins. I haven’t played any in the franchise but came extremely close to playing Black Flag. There’s a sale at Gamestop this weekend and I think Origins is on the list… I may have to invest. Thank you for sharing!
