Lets Talk About Dark Souls II: Scholar of The First Sin!

I’ve completed the original Dark Souls II game multiple times, but I’ve never played the Scholar of The First Sin edition until yesterday.

Scholar of The First Sin is great. It has all of the DLC that released in Dark Souls II and a slight graphics boost too. Some areas look great and I can barely tell the difference in others. I’m only two hours into this game and I’m already in love with it. I love the enemy placement and how From Software mixed it up by adding new enemies that weren’t there in my original run.

It’s like I’m playing Dark Souls II for the first time all over again and that’s a great feeling to have. I’m not rushing into familiar areas because I don’t know what to expect. I’m taking my time, exploring the area, and trying not to die in the process. It’s great and I can’t believe I waited so long to try this version of Dark Souls II. I’ve never completed any of the DLC for Dark Souls II and that has me really excited! I’ve beaten three bosses and haven’t died from any of them yet. I haven’t died at all, yet, but I’m expecting that to change really soon. My character is going to be a strength build with some points put into faith for the healing miracles. I’m walking around with a big ass sword and life is good right now… until I die anyway.

Scholar of The First Sin isn’t perfect though. For some reason I can’t play this game in full-screen mode. I’m playing in windowed mode at 1080p resolution and honestly it bothers the hell out of me. If I don’t complete this game that will be why and it’s shame because I really, really like it.

Have you ever played this version of Dark Souls II? What did you think of it?

  1. I’ve only played (and beat) this version of it, and also played and beat Demon Souls and Dark Souls 1. These games are tough, but fun. Not sure if I’ll ever get around to Dark Souls 3. Maybe one day…

  2. I only ever played the vanilla version, but I really enjoyed it (in spite of most of the bosses being “big guy with sword”). I understand the expansions add some really interesting content!
