I’ve been thinking a lot about the Soul series lately. I’ve played, and mastered, them all and I can’t help, but think of how much better the series could become with some added features. I decided to come up with a short list of 5 things I would love to see in future Souls game, whether it be Dark Souls 3 or whatever else comes after it.
5. Better Dialogue
The Souls games have some of the best lore in all of gaming, but talking to other NPCs is one of the low points of the games. I would love to see some more character interaction between the few npcs that litter the world. I felt like Dark Souls 2 had a chance to do this because everyone you met eventually ended up in Majula, but you couldn’t really talk to them much.
What if I wanted some more info on their backstory, or on Majula itself. Simple dialogue options like this would make the game more immersive to me and actually make me want to talk to the NPCs more often instead of just checking back with them once every blue moon to see if they have something different to say.
4. I Want A Stable Experience On Day One
After playing Mad Max, on PC, I’m looking at games different then I used to. Mad Max is the most stable game I’ve ever played on PC in my life and I expect games to work on release day. I’m not going to tolerate a buggy ass game on day 1 anymore because I spend my hard earned money on these games. The devs can at least make sure they work on release day.
3. Dynamic Day/Night Cycle
How awesome would it be to have dynamic day/night cycle like The Witcher 3, and Fallout 4 has? Imagine going to a graveyard during the day in Dark Souls and only fighting a few skeleton minions. Go back at night and you’ll fight a massive horde of all kinds of undead things and maybe even a boss fight.
I would love a day/night cycle and maybe even weather in a Soul’s game. There’s no reason why there shouldn’t be one. If Ocarina of Time of the 64 has one there’s no reason why a Soul’s game can’t have one today.
2. Better Boss Design
One of the few things I didn’t like about Dark Souls 2 was how each boss was basically a humanoid in some way. Not all of them were bad, I really enjoyed fighting the pursuer, but a good majority of them were really easy to beat and gave me very little satisfaction in doing so. Here’s to hoping that Dark Souls 3 goes back to it’s roots with the boss fights.
- I Want A Real PC Port!
I’m tired of games giving us half assed PC ports. The Witcher 3, Skyrim, and Dark Souls 2 all have terrible PC ports. They’re all fun to play, but devs, especially CD Projekt Red, and Bethesda, should know better because their games sale more on PC then consoles. There’s no reason why they can’t give us a solid PC port of a game. Dark Souls 2 is literally unplayable with mouse and keyboard for me on PC. I have to use my Xbox One controller because of how difficult it is for me to figure out which buttons on my keyboard do what. All of the command prompts show controller buttons instead of PC ones.
Lords of The Fallen had great controls on PC. Dark Souls 3 needs to have a great PC port or it’s going to fail on PC.
That’s my list of five things I would love to see in future Souls games. I don’t think I’m asking for much. Half of the crap I mentioned should have already been implemented in previous games. I really hope From Software at least gives us my number 1. That would make a lot of gamers really, really happy.
