A Nightmare On Elm Street Review

Spread the Word!

The movie that redefined the horror genre is next on my October scare fest.

I wasn’t born when this film was released. It came out a good five years before I was even though of, but I was introduced to this film when I was about four or five years old and it scared the living crap out of me.

A Nightmare On Elm Street is one of those movies that can be watched in any generation and still be as exciting as it was the first time you saw it because it aged really well. A Nightmare on Elm Street did something not many horror movies can do and that’s have a memorable cast of characters. Johnny Depp, and Robert Englund immediately come to my mind when I think of this movie, and even though they die in your typical horror movie way it’s still very enjoyable and creative because of how original Freddy Krueger is.

When Freddy was a man he was burned alive by the parents of the little kids that he murdered that took the law into their own hands. Instead of staying dead Freddie came back more powerful then ever and haunted their children in their dreams. Freddie Krueger has become an icon in the horror industry and it’s creator, Wes Craven, became a legend.

fredA Nightmare on Elm Street had some of the most gruesome deaths I’ve ever seen in a film. Freddy Krueger always thought of new ways to torture his victims to death in their dreams. It’s a unique setting for a horror film because it was so new at the time. We had plenty of slasher films with Halloween, and Friday the 13th, but we had nothing like this. I think it’s why I was so attracted to it in the first place.

Johnny got his start playing Glen, poor guy, and he went on to become the huge actor that he is today. A Nightmare on Elm Street has done what very few horror movies can and that’s stand the test of time. I loved Hellraiser back in the day, but the older movies in the franchise has aged really badly. A Nightmare on Elm Street does not suffer from this. It’s as enjoyable as ever and Freddy Krueger, Robert Englund not the other guy, is still as scary, charismatic, and awesome as ever. No Halloween would be complete without hearing Freddy’s signature laugh, and song.

You saw this when you were only 4 or 5? Good lord, I wouldn’t have slept for weeks! In fact, whenever I see it now I still don’t. . haha. Such a great movie.
