I read something very interesting this morning. Miyazaki, president of From Software, is planning on ending the Soul series after Dark Souls 3. The long time fan in me is heart broken…
Dark Souls was my very first experience with the Souls series. I loved it so much I went out and brought a PS3 and got Demon’s Souls. I’ve been in love with this series ever since.
Most hardcore Souls players like to bash Dark Souls 2, but I loved it. I loved how it mixed Dark Souls, and Demon’s Souls best elements into one game. It was easier, but it was still really good in my opinion.
I’ll admit that there has been a lot of Souls games recently, but I honestly see nothing wrong with that. Dark Souls 2 was different enough from Dark Souls and Demon’s Souls. It wasn’t the exact same game, like Assassin’s Creed, and it’s not like we’re getting two or three Souls games a year.
Dark Souls is at the peak of it’s popularity right now and Miyazaki is calling it quits. I can understand his reasons why. He wants to do something different and give Dark Souls, hopefully, a long break. As a hardcore Souls fan I can only hope that we’ll get more after Dark Souls 3.
Maybe they’ll release a Souls game every new generation of consoles. That would help keep it from becoming stale if that’s what they’re worried about. It sounds like Miyazaki just wants to make new games that aren’t called Dark Souls and that’s understandable. I’m still disappointed, but here’s to hoping Dark Souls 3 ends with a bang. Especially if this is the final chapter in Dark Souls.
