Dragon's Dogma First Impression [PC]

Spread the Word!

Dragon’s Dogma will release tomorrow for everyone on PC. PC gamers have been wanting to play this game for years. How good is the PC port of Dragon’s Dogma?

I’m not a big Dragon’s Dogma fan and I was quickly reminded of that during my first hour of the PC port of this game. The voice acting sucks, and the game is just as barren as I remember it being on consoles. The gameplay is where this game shines and it doesn’t look that bad.

The graphical options are plentiful and the PC controls are solid. It took me awhile to get used to the controls, but they’re good. The only problem is I don’t see myself playing this game all the way through because I already completed it years ago and I don’t really have a desire to play it again because of all of it’s flaws.

My character is an archer. The archery in this game is really cool and I love hanging off of giants and beating the crap out of them. Dragon’s Dogma has some really good gameplay that very few RPGs did better. I do have some complaints about the PC port. For starters the backspace button works like the enter button. Typing in my name was difficult because every time I hit backspace it deleted one letter and then took me to another page to continue my character creation.

I also don’t like that I can’t change the graphical settings while I’m in game. I have to quit and do it from the title screen because I forgot to turn off depth of field. Those are probably my only complaints at the moment since I’m still at the very beginning of the game.

If you’re curious on what I think about Dragon’s Dogma I did write a review for the console port a while ago. You can find it here.

Those PC-specific issues sound like a bummer. I loved this game when I played it last-gen on consoles, though like you said, mainly for the combat. There’s just something about using a Sorcerer and summoning a massive tornado that flings a band of bandits around the air like lifeless debris, or charging up one punishing attack as a Warrior that can potentially one-shot a boss monster.

I’m not sure how it’s held up over time, but if it ever ends up on the BC list of Xbox One I’ll give it another go for the hell of it. Three full-length playthroughs was enough to stay away until that day comes.

I played through it twice on the PS3 and I already feel kind of burnt out on it and I’m only 2 and half hours in.

Playing as a mage in this game is awesome though.
