Dynasty Warriors Game Review

Dynasty Warriors 8 Review

Dynasty Warriors has always been my all time favorite coop game to play. It’s been around for a long time. Reviewers usually bash the game for always being the same thing but why change what isn’t broken? They bash Dynasty Warriors for never “changing” but they’re wrong. A lot has changed in Dynasty Warriors over the years. The combat is still the same but Koei has added more to the game over time.

While Dynasty Warriors 8 didn’t make as big of a leap as part 7 it’s still one hell of game. I enjoy taking out my frustrations on thousands of enemies after a hard day’s work. They’ve added new characters, fighting styles, and a new affinity mechanic. Now you’re encouraged to switch weapons during battle depending on the type of enemy you’re facing. I for one love the stylish combat, and beautiful graphics.

The rage meter makes a return in Dynasty Warriors and when you activate it you enter a raged like mode delivering massive amounts of damage while chaining beautiful combos together for one epic finish. This alone makes the game worth playing. Story mode took a different turn this time around. While it is still based off the Three Kingdoms time period there are a number of different things you can do now that determines the outcome of the story.

If you fail an objective then that same character you didn’t kill or you let escape will show up in a later battle and cause trouble for you.

Dynasty Warriors 8 introduces Ambition Mode. It’s basically the same as Dynasty Warriors 7 Extreme Legends excellent Legend mode. It allows you to build a small, poor settlement and eventually turn it into a thriving kingdom. The missions are short compared to the epic battles you’ll take part of in the main campaign: Small skirmishes allow you to gather materials for shops and facilities, while rescue missions will grant you additional fame, which allows you to recruit additional allies from battles you participate in.

Famous Officers you best in a duel can be convinced to join you as your own personal bodyguard. Bodyguards offer you support bonuses as their bonds with you grow over time. Merchants can visit your city and offer you exquisite goods. Who wouldn’t love to ride a freaking bear into battle. Or buying valuable supplies for your growing kingdom. You can send troops out to another province and they’ll return bearing brand new materials for you to forge new weapons out of. Engaging in battles yourself rewards you by giving you gold but keep in mind that your health doesn’t replenish after each battle. The more damage you take the longer it’ll take for you to fully recover from your wounds. You may participate in battles while you’re injured but if you’re killed then it’s game over for you and you’ll have to start over from the beginning.

Dynasty Warriors 8 is the best Dynasty Warriors game to date. While it didn’t innovate as much as it’s predecessor it does take a leap forward in the right direction. My final verdict for Dynasty Warriors 8 is a 9/10. This game is amazing and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for my favorite hack n slash game. I hope you enjoyed reading this and if you did i’ll have more for you real soon.

The first Dynasty Warriors game I played on the PS2 I loved and replayed loads. Since then though I have got a bit bored of the series due to the samey combat. Even changing the setting to the Gundam universe has failed to rekindle my interest.

The only thing that really stayed the same was the gameplay itself but they’ve even tweaked that over the years. I love series and i’ll defend it to death :]

Dynasty Warriors is awesome to play cooperatively. The combat is addictive, and I love the changes that have been made in this game.
