Grim Dawn First Impression

Spread the Word!

Do you want to play Diablo II, but with better graphics? If your answer is yes you’ll love Grim Dawn because that’s exactly what it is.

You can find my review for Grim Dawn here.

Grim Dawn is a fun game. I’ve spent the last two hours trying it out and I’m having fun with the game. I can also say the same thing about Path of Exile, Torchlight, and Van Helsing games though. Grim Dawn, and Path of Exile are Diablo clones, but they’re good ones.

I was a little disappointed when I booted up Grim Dawn. When I saw the “create a character” option on the main menu I thought I could actually create my own protagonist. It’s not like that at all. As soon as I clicked on create a character and typed in my name the character automatically generated right in front of me. Why add this option if we can’t create a character? It makes no sense and gives people false hope. Call it something else because it’s not a character creator.

After a brief cutscene I was able to control my character and start fighting against hordes of undead enemies. Grim Dawn’s combat isn’t nearly as fluid or fresh as Diablo III’s, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s more like Path of Exile, or Diablo II, but doesn’t have any of the desync  that Path of Exile has. The skill tree is quite small, but so far I don’t mind it.

My character started off pretty weak against everything because all I could do was summon my raven, and shoot green magic bolts at my enemies, but after I grew some levels and upgraded my skills I was easily wiping out small groups of enemies with that same green magic bolt. I like how I can upgrade my basic skills into stronger versions of them. My green bolt started off hitting a single enemy, but now it explodes like a grenade when I toss it .The downside to this is I can no longer spam it like I used to, but it does so much more damage that most enemies go down with a single blast so I don’t need to spam it anymore.

This game wouldn’t be complete without a ton of loot to pick up from the corpses of your dead foes. There’s plenty of items for us to loot and I love that. I’ve already found my first green item. The customization is great and I can’t wait to see what some of the higher level items look like. I also really love that I can use guns in this game. That’s something neither Path of Exile or Diablo III has and it’s a good way for Grim Dawn to have it’s own identity without being called a complete clone.

I’m liking Grim Dawn so far. It’s a good game and has all of the things I look for in a good ARPG. I have three more reviews lined up before I take my PC break and move on to the 3DS.

Cool, I’m looking for my next Steam game to start up and this one has been sitting in the library, sounds fun. They should definitely call that generate a character or something else though, pretty misleading.

I have no idea when you posted this comment because for some reason WordPress decided to mark it as spam. If you haven’t already I recommend playing Grim Dawn. It’s a lot of fun.

I actually already reviewed this one. The link is below if you’re curious.
