Hit Or Miss 1

Hit or Miss – February 2019

Spread the Word!

Here’s my second Hit or Miss of the year! I know this one is really late, but I didn’t expect my old laptop to break on me so… it’s better late than never right?

Wargroove (Switch)

I like Wargroove. I bought it when it launched and if you need a game to scratch that Fire Emblem itch it’ll do, but it’s not an incredibly deep game. There’s no leveling up, deep story, or interesting characters. The gameplay is really neat though, but that’s about it. It’s only $20 on the Switch and even cheaper on PC and I recommend it because it is a fun little game that’s well worth the asking price.

Verdict – Hit!

Etrian Odyssey: Nexus (3DS)

I had no idea that this game was even a thing yet alone releasing this month on the 3DS. It’s the final Etrian Odyssey game on 3DS and I felt obligated to buy it because it’s a fantastic series. It feels weird that there will be no more Etrian Odyssey games on the 3DS. I’m really looking forward to playing this, but at the same time, I’m looking forward to what the future of this series will be like on the Switch.

BlazBlue Central Fiction (Switch)

I can’t ever see the Switch being my go-to platform for fighting games. I can’t play a fighting game at 30fps and I don’t really care much for having any fighting game be portable. So… this is an automatic miss for me.

Verdict – Miss!

God Eater 3 (PS4, PC)

PC continues to get a lot of love from Japanese developers and it’s great to see so many neat JRPGs make their way to the platform. That being said this is a wait for a sale for me. I can’t see myself paying $60 for a game with so many issues at launch. I like what I’ve seen of the game. It looks like a faster Monster Hunter, but I’m still heavily invested in Monster Hunter World and I don’t really need another game that plays like it right now.

Verdict – Wait For Sale!

Civilization VI: Gathering Storm (PC)

Civilization VI continues to get more quality expansions that add to the game. I haven’t played this game in a while, but this expansion will definitely bring me back. I’m not buying this as soon as it releases because I’m getting Anthem, but this is definitely on my to buy list in the near future.

Verdict – Hit!

Crackdown 3 (Xbox One, PC)

Crackdown 3 is finally releasing and I don’t care one bit. Is anyone still hyped for this? It’s been pushed back so many times that I honestly forgot it was still in development. I thought it would get the Scalebound treatment. I’m not a fan of the Crackdown series. Part 1 and 2 were mediocre games at best and I’m expecting part 3 to be more of the same. At least it’s an Xbox exclusive because we all know that console could use more of those.

Verdict – Miss!

Metro Exodus (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

I think all of my most anticipated games of this year is releasing before E3. I love the Metro series and I’m super excited to finally be able to play this game. It looks amazing, but I am concerned that we won’t be exploring any underground areas anymore. They were always the best parts of the game. It also really sucks that this game has a timed exclusivity deal with Epic’s shitty game store and I won’t be buying it right away. I’ll just wait for it to release on Steam.

Verdict – Wait For Steam Release!

Far Cry: New Dawn (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

There’s another Far Cry game… How many does this make now? Far Cry used to be such a great series. Far Cry 2 (my personal favorite) was a real gem. Far Cry 3 was fantastic too. Far Cry 4 felt like Far Cry 3.5, but it had the most memorable locales in the series in my opinion. This series has the same problem that Assassin’s Creed had. There are too many of them. The big difference with this one is that it’s post-apocalyptic this time. The only post-apocalyptic game I’m interested in is Metro Exodus, but this game isn’t a full $60 title. That might sway me in the future, but for now, my answer is no. Especially not this month because it’s already pretty stacked with games that I want to buy.

Verdict – Miss!

Jump Force (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

This might be the best looking fighting game I’ve ever seen, but I’m not familiar with any of the characters in this game. I’m not an Anime fan at all. I don’t know Naruto, DBZ or any of the other shit that’s in this game. That being said it doesn’t look like a bad game, but it’s one I’m not willing to pay full price for.

Verdict – Wait For Sale!

Yakuza Kiwami (PC)

I’m not a fan of the Yakuza series. I think they’re dumb games. I’m glad more Japanese games are releasing on PC, but I can go without these. If Sega decided to let Persona release on PC that’ll be a different story… Verdict – Miss!

Anthem (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

This is my most anticipated game of 2019. So… yes, I’m very excited about the release of Anthem. It looks like Warframe and Diablo had a love child. I’m glad this game is different than Destiny because Destiny is a horrible series. I don’t want to play Destiny 2.0. I’m perfectly fine with this game being different and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Verdict – Hit!

Stellaris: Console Edition (PS4, Xbox One)

Stellaris is one of the best games ever made. So.. if you can stomach playing this game on a console go ahead and buy it. I can’t play strategy games with a controller and I don’t plan on trying to play this with one.

Verdict – Miss!

And that wraps up my monthly Hit or Miss series! What games are you looking forward to playing this month?
