Hit or Miss – March 2019

Spread the Word!

I know I’m late posting this (again), but it’s better late than never right

Dead or Alive 6

I’ve always really enjoyed playing the Dead or Alive games. The media wants to act like this series having an expensive season pass is a new thing. It’s not and no season pass should cost anywhere near as much as this game’s season pass does, but I still plan on buying this game once the price drops. I’m not going to touch the season pass unless the price is drastically dropped though.

Verdict – Wait For Sale!

Black Desert (Xbox One)

Black Desert has released on consoles. This game isn’t just your standard MMO. It’s not just about killing monsters and completing shitty side quest. This game has a robust player driven economy and world. You could play this game for 700 hours and still not experience everything that there is to experience. How of that is worth experiencing though? I’ve warmed up to this game over the years. I originally gave it a 3 when it released and if I ever went back and updated that review it would probably be a 6 or 7. This still isn’t what I would consider a great MMO, but you can easily sink a ton of time into it and get your money’s worth.

Verdict – Miss!

Left Alive

Left Alive is Square Enix’s take on Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid. The difference is this game doesn’t seem to be nearly as polished as those games. This game is unoptimized and can barely run on a 1080 and that’s inexcusable when you consider how bad the game looks. Still… I might pick this up on a deep sale because I do enjoy stealth games. Or I might just play Ghost Recon or Splinter Cell again.

Verdict – Undecided!

Devil May Cry 5

Devil May Cry 5 is the first Devil May Cry game in a long time. Longtime fans of the series bitched and complained about DMC so Capcom put the game on the shelf. I really like what I’ve played of the game so far, but I don’t know if it’ll hold that appeal yet. It’s a LOT of fun right now though :).

Verdict – Hit!

Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn

The next game I’m buying on my 3DS is Persona Q2. I don’t care for Kirby outside of Planet Robobot and I have zero interest in purchasing this overpriced game.

Verdict – Miss!

The Caligula Effect: Overdose

This game is a remake of Vita game with the same name. It’s basically a B grade Persona game with some of the most uninteresting stages I’ve ever played in my years of gaming. The story and characters are interesting though and I recommend taking a look at this game when it’s on sale or something.

Verdict – Miss!

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel

The fact that this isn’t releasing on the Switch makes me sad. If this company wants my money they’ll port it to the Switch because that’s where I play my JRPGs these days. I have nothing against the PlayStation 4, but I prefer playing meaty RPGs on a portable console.

Lego Marvel Collection

I know my kids would love to play these games, but it’s not releasing on the Switch and that’s where we get all of our family games. We do play Diablo on the PS4 pretty often, but we have more controllers on the Switch so that wins by default. I’m pretty sure these games will be releasing on the Switch at some point and most likely be incredibly overpriced too.

Verdict – Miss

The Division 2

I won’t be able to buy this game for a few more days, but I can’t wait for it! This game came up a short to Anthem on my top 10 most anticipated games of 2019 and looking back in hindsight I should have placed this game at the number 1 spot. I fell in love with the first game and I played about 20 minutes of the open beta before I deleted it from my PC because that was all it took for me to know that this game is a must buy.

Verdict – Hit!

I can’t believe that Turok is releasing on the Switch! This game is a must buy. Turok is a classic and is one of the best games on the N64. This and Seeds of Evil will be added to my collection of Switch games this year. I wonder if these are getting physical releases?

Verdict – Hit!

Fate Extella Link

The Dynasty Warriors type game filled with anime looking characters is releasing later this month. I’ve never played a single game in this series and I’ll admit that I’m curious about this series, but not enough to pay $50 for this game. This would be one title that I would get on my PS4 over the Switch because I know it’ll drop in price faster there.

Verdict – Wait For Sale!

Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon: Every Buddy

This game is the perfect buy for the Switch. I love mystery dungeon games. I’ve played all of the Pokemon and that neat spinoff to Etrian Odyssey. I can’t wait for this, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to buy it this month because I’m getting The Division 2 and Turok. I’ll try to squeeze it in there!

Verdict – Hit!

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

From Software’s latest game will be releasing later this month and I couldn’t be more excited about it. If I don’t buy The Division 2 this is game will be the reason why. This game looks absolutely fantastic and could be a potential game of the year candidate for me. I’m that excited for it and I can’t wait for it to release.

Verdict – Hit!

Atelier Lulua: The Scions of Fate

Atelier Lulua is the newest game in the long-running Atelier series. I’ve never played a single one of these games. I do own Atelier Sophie and I plan on completing that game before this one releases because I do want this game, but with so many other neat looking games releasing this month I have no idea when I’ll add this to my gaming library.

Verdict – Undecided!

Nelke & The LEgendary Alchemists: Ateliers of the New World

From what I’ve seen of this game it’s very different than your usual Atelier game. It almost looks like an on-rails JRPG and I’m not really interested in that. The turn-based combat looks really neat though, but I have to question why a company would release two games in the series right next to other. Space out these releases a little :).

MLB The Show 19

I’m not a baseball fan and I haven’t played a baseball game in many years. I only bother to play Madden these days and even that has gotten stale to me because it’s the same thing every year…

Verdict – Miss!

Yoshi’s Crafted World

This is the first Yoshi game that I have no interest in playing. The demo was terrible and I’m not a fan of the level design when compared to the excellent Woolly World. First party Nintendo games rarely drop in price, but I would rather wait for a sale than pay full price for a game that I no longer have interest in.

Verdict – Wait For Sale!

And that wraps up my really large list of games for March. What are you looking forward to playing this month?

I’m with you on being disappointed about games not coming out on the Switch, especially JRPGs. It’s just so convenient to have it there, since I mostly use it as a handheld. What is with the yarn games?? I mean they look super cute, but is that the aesthetic now?

I guess the yarn games have become an aesthetic. So far I think Nintendo are the only ones doing it, but they do it well imo.

I wish every JRPG would release on the Switch. Especially the Trails games because I’ve never played them and they look like the perfect games to play handheld. Maybe one day!

They are cute lol. I haven’t played any yet, but I know Kirby and Yoshi are beloved characters and kids probably love them.

Me too. It’s a great system for them. I like having the handheld option for longer JRPGs.
