Hit or Miss – November

Spread the Word!

It’s better late than never right? Here’s my slightly late edition of Hit or Miss!

The truth is I almost forgot to write one of these this month. I’ve been so focused on my Pokemon Project that I kind of forgot about everything else I usually do. Sorry about that :).

Pokemon: Lets’ Go Pikachu & Eevee (Switch)

Lets get my number 1 game for this month out of the way. I’ve already preordered my copy of Eevee and I can’t wait to play it. I’m not a fan of some of the changes, but it’s been awhile since I’ve played a Pokemon game and I don’t mind revisiting Kanto (again) and playing through it with Eevee instead of Pikachu.

Overkill’s The Walking Dead – (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

This is a game that had some super interesting game trailers. I was excited because of that and when I saw the gameplay… my excitement left. It’s not a bad looking game by any means, but it’s not what I was expecting. It looks like a shittier version of Left 4 Dead and it’s $60. Honestly it should be $30.

Verdict – Miss!

Diablo III: Eternal Edition (Switch)

Diablo III is finally on the Nintendo Switch! And I don’t really care! I might get this game eventually, but I already know what game I’m buying (well… I preordered it already) already and that’s Pokemon. I’ve got hundreds of hours in Diablo III on Xbox One and PC. I don’t need another version right now. If you’re one of the few people that hasn’t played it then I highly recommend that you buy this version of the game if you own a Switch.

Verdict – Miss (for now!)

World of Final Fantasy Maxima (PS4, Xbox One, PC, Switch)

I never finished the original World of Final Fantasy. I might end up getting this on the Switch during a slow spell. I would prefer it on the Switch, but games that I want on that platform rarely go on sale.

Verdict – Wait For Sale!

The Forest (PS4)

The Forest is a game that I’ve owned for years and I’ve never been interested in playing it. It’s a another survival game in an already tired genre that’s releasing on the PS4 soon. If that’s your kind of thing then go for it. I’ll save my money for something else. I do remember interviewing the crew behind this game. They’re cool people.

The Verdict – Miss!

Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom (Switch, PS4, PC, Xbox One)

This game looks great. I love how the main protagonist can transform into different animals to solve different problems. I’m definitely getting this one this one soon.

Verdict – Hit!

Valiant Hearts (Switch)

Eh… that’s how I feel about this game. It’s not for me, but I know there’s a audience for it. It’s not me.

Verdict – Miss!

Hitman 2 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

I still haven’t played the first Hitman game. I really want to though since all of the episodes are available and because I’m a huge Hitman fan. Is this another episodic Hitman game? Or is it more like the originals? I have no idea and that will determine if I buy this game right away or not.

Verdict – Undecided!

SNK 40th Anniversary Collection (Switch)

I have no interest in adding any of these old games to my collection. I personally feel like some games should fade away instead of popping up and taking up space on the already overcrowded eshop, but that’s just me.

Verdict – Miss!

Spyro Reignited Trilogy (PS4, Xbox One)

I have a confession to make. I’ve never been a Spyro fan and I could care less for these remasters. When you think of Playstation you’ll probably think of games like Ratchet and Clank and Spyro. Well… I’ve never been a Playstation guy and Spyro isn’t a game that I’ve ever enjoyed playing and I have no plans to own this.

Verdict – Miss!

Fallout 76 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

It’s not a matter of if I’m going to buy this game it’s when I’m going to buy it. My number 1 game this month is Pokemon, but if I had to choose a number 2 it would be Fallout 76. I want to play a multiplayer Fallout game and I’m getting it on PC for the best experience.

Verdict – Hit!

Underworld Ascendant (PC)

I should be interested in this game because I usually love games like this. I’m not though. It looks cheap to me and it looks like it’s going to launch full of bugs and glitches. It also looks really low budget to me and I just can’t justify buying a game like this right now. Since it’s launching on PC though I know I’ll be able to get it really cheap in a few months.

Verdict – Wait For Sale!

Civilization VI (Switch)

I never thought I would see a main Civilization game come to a console. I’m not surprised it’s Civilization VI though. The visual style of the game kind of gave it away that it would end up on both phones and now the Nintendo Switch. If this game launches with touch controls I might actually consider buying it. If it only works with a controller then it’s a hell no for me. I don’t see this competing with the PC version in any way because I can mod my game and mouse and keyboard is better for games like this, but having Civilization VI on the go doesn’t sound bad.

Verdict – Undecided!

Battlefield V (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

I’m not interested in this and it’s not because there’s women in it. I’m just not a big Battlefield fan and all of sexist out there bitching about there being women in this game need to grow up. Seriously. I know I’ll end up playing this because I have Origin Access on my PC so I don’t really need to buy EA games unless it’s something I really want… like Anthem :).

Verdict – Miss (Because of Origin Access)!

Darksiders III (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Darksiders III looks… pretty bad if I’m to be completely honest here. The budget for this game must have been pretty low. I’ve seen some people calling it a AA game instead of a AAA game, but honestly it looks like a B game to me. I’m not interested in this. It’s nice to see Darksiders back, but I was never a big fan of the series to begin with.

Verdict – Miss!

And that wraps up my large list of games on this month’s edition of Hit or Miss! What games are you looking forward to this month?

Re Spyro, I do think there needs to be some nostalgia to get the msot out of remastered titles. Like, I think Crash fans would ahve probably gotten rmoe out of the Crash bandicoot remasters than people who didn’t care them to begin with. Spyro I enjoyed in my youth, so i’ll likely check them out eventually though.

I agree. I nerded out when the remaster to Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire was announced. You need to have some sort of connection to an old game to go out and buy it. Unless you’ve never played it before then by all means go ahead and try it out :). I’ll most likely end up buying the game for my kids though.

Darksiders 3 is something I have my eye on simply because I really enjoyed the previous games. I’m holding on for the reviews before plonking down some money though.

Valiant Hearts is an interesting one. At its (valiant) heart it’s a puzzle game, but it’s got a really nicely told story with it, including some genuinely emotional moments. The Switch feels like a perfect fit for it.

I’m just not interested in playing another port of an old game on my Switch. Next game I’m buying will be Pokemon. I never got into Darksiders. I played the first one and never bothered with the second. Funny thing is I got the second one from a Humble Bundle and never touched it. Maybe one day :).

Darksiders 2 was a bit different. More open world with a loot system. I appreciated the greater variety, but it lost some of the previous game’s focus as a result.
