Hit or Miss October – Late Edition!

Spread the Word!

I usually write 1 or two (rarely 3) of these every month to let everyone know what games are coming out and briefly explain what I think of them and whether or not I want to add them to my ever-growing game collection. Here’s my super late edition of Hit or Miss!

Before I get into the list of games I have planned to write about let me explain why this is so late this month. I’ve had a pretty rough year. I’ve been homeless, my wife is mentally ill, I’m doing double duty as a dad/husband, and very recently I found out that my health is very poor. My main goal has been to focus on getting better and trying to reduce the amount of stress in my life. So far that isn’t working very well. I’m at a high risk of having a stroke, I have diabetes, high blood pressure, and a fast heart rate that has to be looked at by an cardiologist. I could have heart disease, which runs in my family, at only 29 years old. I’m trying to get back into the swing of things here, but I’m taking it slowly. I’m mostly focusing on releasing game reviews and I’m very active on Twitter too. Since I’ve gotten that out of the way lets get to what you all came here for!

Forza Horizon 4 – Xbox One, PC

There are way too many games releasing right now for me care about a racing game. I’m sure Forza Horizon 4 is fun. I’m actually a fan of the series, but I don’t deal with the Windows Store and I’ve never considered any Forza game a must own.

Verdict – Miss!

Fist of the North Star – PS4

This game looks absolutely horrible. I couldn’t even make it 5 minutes in. Once I saw the heavy QTEs and generic gameplay I noped the fuck out. And they want $60 for this?! It’s not even worth $30.

Verdict – Miss!

Mega Man 11 – PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch

I have a confession to make… I don’t care about Mega Man anymore. It’s one of those series that I used to love and now I could care less about it. Mega Man 11 looks like a decent game, but it’s nothing special. It’s a little too late for me Capcom. There are much better platformers out there for me to get lost in than this game. I appreciate that it’s not a $60 title, but the odds of me ever buying this game are slim. I’ll just wait for Smash and play as Mega Man there.

Verdict – Miss!

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – PC, PS4, Xbox One

I have a rule with the Assassin’s Creed series. I never buy them right away. They’re not $60 games to me and I always wait for a sale before I buy them. I love the new direction the series has gone in, but even that’s not enough to convince me to buy it on day one. This game looks like Origins 2.0 to me. That’s not a bad thing exactly, but Origins world stuck out to me more over this one and I’m not super impressed with the visuals of this game. I’m sure I’ll eat those words once I buy the game later on.

Verdict – Wait For Sale

Super Mario Party – Switch

The Switch has it’s first Mario Party game and I don’t care in the slightest. The only Switch game I know for sure that I’m buying this year is Pokemon. I have no room for a Mario Party game. I know my kids will love the game and I’ll probably get it for them for Christmas this year. As far as I go I have no interest in playing Mario Party right now.

Verdict – Miss!

Disgaea 1 Complete – Switch, PS4

I love Disgaea! Disgaea 5 is one of my favorite games on the Switch and I have a soft spot for the series. That being said they’re charging us $50 for an old ass game that released in 2003. I’m not going to say it’s a miss though because I am going to buy this game eventually on the Switch. I’m just going to wait for it to go on sale first.

Verdict – Wait For Sale

WWE 2K19 – PC, PS4, Xbox One

This game looks like the one that released before it and one that released before that one. The graphics are nicer, but that’s all I can say about it. I miss the older wrestling games like Here Comes The Pain and Smackdown vs Raw. At least they tried to give us a good product back then. These new WWE games are trash and I have no interest in buying another one I’ve been burned twice by them.

Verdict – Miss!

The Occupation – PC, PS4,

I know some people will love this game. I’m not one of them. It looks incredibly boring. This game is what I like to call a do nothing simulator. You basically walk around and do nothing for a few hours until you complete the game. I like games with more substance than this and it looks like a game I would lose my temper with. I might buy it because I need to play some bad games for my top 10 worst games of 2018 :).

Mark of the Ninja Remastered – PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch

This is how you price a remastered game like this. Mark of the Ninja is re-releasing on all platforms and I have fond memories of playing it on my PC a few years back. That being said I have no interest in returning to the game. If you haven’t played it before you should totally buy the remaster on your platform of choice.

Verdict – Miss!

Child of Light – Switch

I really enjoyed Child of Light. I don’t remember what platform I played it on (pretty sure it was the Xbox One), but I do remember enjoying the game. It’s been a long time since I’ve played this and I might consider revisiting it somewhere down the line. Somewhere meaning some time next year because the rest of this year is jammed full of great games that I want to play before going back to an old one.

Verdict – Undecided!

Luigi’s Mansion – 3DS

I have no intention of buying games for my 3DS anymore. I never liked Luigi’s Mansion and I have no intention of buying my least favorite Nintendo character’s game on any platform. That includes the upcoming Luigi’s Mansion 3 on the Switch…

Verdict – Miss!

The World Ends With You – Switch

Once upon a time I might have been interested in this game. The story looks interesting, but I can always watch a Youtube video for that. I have no interest in actually playing this game. I don’t think I’ll enjoy the gameplay at all I like the fact that it has co op, but I don’t think this game is for me.

Verdict – Miss!

Call of Duty: Black Ops IV – PC, PS4, Xbox One

I haven’t played Call of Duty since Advanced Warfare. I don’t plan on coming out of retirement for this one. I don’t like the Battle Royal genre and I’m one of the few people that actually did enjoy playing through the campaign in games like this. This game will do absolutely nothing for me.

Verdict – Miss!

Lego DC Super Villains- PC, Xbox One, PS4, Switch

My kids would love this game. This list isn’t about the games my kids would love though. It’s about games I want to play and this isn’t one of them. I know I’ll end up buying it soon for the kids though. I’ll just add this to the already large Christmas list I have.

Verdict – Miss!

Starlink: Battle For Atlas – Switch, PS4, Xbox One

This game looks like the countless other space games we’ve gotten over the last few years. The only unique thing about it is that you get to play as Star Fox. That being said this game looks really cool. I have weakness for games like this and I know I’m going to buy it eventually. Obviously I’m getting the Switch version so I can play as Star Fox. The only downside to me is that I have to buy those stupid figurines… This is a wait for a sale game because it’s releasing next to something I want a lot more.

Verdict – Wait For Sale

Warriors Orochi 4 – PC, Switch, PS4, Xbox One

I’m a huge fan of this series. I loved Warriors Orochi 3 and I plan on buying this game around Christmas for myself. I love that we can play as some mythological gods like Zeus this time. The gameplay like the older Dynasty/Samurai Warriors games and not like the new gameplay in Dynasty Warriors 9. It’ll be fun getting lost in this game for about 100 hours.

Verdict – Hit!

Soul Calibur VI – PC, PS4, Xbox One

I’m expecting this to be my game of the year! I love Soul Calibur and everything I’ve seen on this one looks phenomenal. I’m probably going to buy this game twice so I can play it on my PC and on my TV. Once this game releases you might not hear from me for awhile…

Verdict – Hit!

Dark Souls Remaster – Switch

This game is releasing way too late on the Switch. I was super interested in it when it first announced and now I’m not. Why? Because it’s releasing next to Soul Calibur VI dammit! I might get this game during a dry spell next year, but the odds are slim. I hope this game does well because I wouldn’t mind seeing the entire trilogy get the same treatment on the Switch.

Verdict – Miss!

Just Dance 2019 – PS4, Xbox One, Switch, Wii U, Wii, Xbox 360

Why are games still being made for the regular Wii? You gotta give Ubisoft credit… they want everyone to play Just Dance. I used to play this series back when I was in shape, but I’ve never been what you would call a good dancer.

Verdict – Miss!

My Hero One’s Justice – PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One

I’m not buying any other fighting game except Soul Calibur VI this year. This game doesn’t look that interesting anyway. I would say something like, “maybe when I’m done with Soul Calibur VI I’ll give it a look.”, but that would be a lie and lying isn’t good so…

Verdict – Miss!

Red Dead Redemption 2 – PS4, Xbox One

This is without a doubt the biggest game launch of the year. Everyone and their grandma will buy this game and I’m counting myself among them. I love Westerns and I love games that take place in the Wild West. There’s not a lot of good Western games though and I’m very excited for Red Dead Redemption 2. I won’t have a chance to play it until at least November though.

Call of Cthulu – PC, PS4, Xbox One

This game looks super interesting. The graphics aren’t anything to write home about. It looks very last generationish to me, but the story and creepy shit going on around the main protagonist has me intrigued. I’m not intrigued enough to pay $60 for it though…

Verdict – Wait For Sale

And that wraps up my very large list of games! I’m only doing one Hit or Miss post this month. That’s why it’s packed full of games that have/have not released yet. What are you looking forward to this month?

The one I’m most interested in is Call of Cthulhu. I loved the original on PC (in spite of the bugs) and I’m very keen to see what a modern reimagining of it can do.

Call of Cthulhu looks super interesting, but I’m not willing to pay that much for it. It’ll drop in price eventually :). I’m not looking forward to much. Soul Calibur is my number 1 game followed by Red Dead Redemption 2.

I always like a Soul Calibur game and it’s about damn time a new version was released!

I know right! It’s been way too long. I can’t wait to beat my brother and wife at this game :).

The Fist of the North Star game is super fun. As a HUGE fan of Fist of the North Star game makes me happy and I’ve only played the demo. I’m getting the full game for Christmas.

Soul Calibur VI, I’ve written about my time with that game, oh boy. It’s back, Soul Calibur is back. I may disappear on Friday because of it.

RDR2 releases the week after SC6 so I may be gone for a while.
