3DS Fallout Hit Or Miss PC Playstation 4 Van Helsing Xbox One 5

Hit or Miss – Van Helsing, Fallout 4, Battlefront, and More

Spread the Word!

My hit or miss series is officially back and since so many games have released this month I decided to make a list of them and give you my opinion on whether or not I think they’re worth buying or not.

Van Helsing: Final Cut

At it’s core the latest installment of the Van Helsing series is a excellent game that offers us a lot of content, well written dialogue, and awesome gameplay that we can easily sink a ton of hours into, but I can’t recommend it in it’s current state and I would recommend waiting for the price to drop before committing to this game.

Verdict – Miss

Yo Kai Watch:

yo kai watch

Yo Kai Watch is known in Japan as the Pokemon killer. My brief time spent in the demo of this game already has me wanting more. I can’t wait to buy this game and start collecting Yo Kai and so far I really like it and I prefer it to Pokemon.  Maybe I’m getting tired of the same ole Pokemon formula, but Yo Kai Watch actually has a story, and some pretty funny looking Yo Kai.

Verdict – Hit

Call of Duty Black Ops 3:

Black-Ops-3_Specialist-RuinI like Call of Duty Advanced Warfare. I enjoyed the main campaign and put some time into the multiplayer, but I do not want anything to do with Black Ops 3. I’m not a Call of Duty player. My last CoD game that I purchased before Advanced Warfare was World at War. Black Ops 3 doesn’t look like it does enough for me to purchase another Call of Duty game so soon after Advanced Warfare.

Verdict – Miss

Star Wars Battlefront:

The game just about every hardcore Star Wars has wanted for years is finally here, but I don’t recommend rushing out to buy it right now because it’s basically Battlefield with a Star Wars skin attached to it.

If you’re a big Battlefield fan you’re most likely going to love this game, but for people like me I need a little more than “awesome” multiplayer to convince me to spend $60 on a game. Wait for a sale before you commit to this one.

Verdict – Miss

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate:

Assassin's Creed SyndicateAssassin’s Creed Syndicate is out for consoles, but it releases on PC tomorrow. Do not buy this game on day one on PC. Ubisoft is notorious for fucking up their PC ports and this will be no different. The game itself is pretty horrible and offers very little entertainment in a series that has grown pretty stale since Black Flag.

Verdict – Miss

Fallout 4:

2015-11-10_00046Fallout 4 is the long awaited sequel to Fallout 3 and it definitely delivers. This game offers us fun gameplay, a nice story, a huge post apocalyptic world for us to explore, and an almost infinite amount of replayability. This is a must own in my opinion.

Verdict – Hit

Rise of The Tomb Raider:

Rise_of_the_tomb_raiderIf this game had come out any other month I would recommend buying it, but it didn’t and it released on the same day as Fallout 4. Which game do you think I brought?

Rise of The Tomb Raider looks like a really good game, but since the first one was a bit of disappointment to me I’m going to wait until this game is on sale before I commit to buying because I think it’s going to lack replay value for me just like it’s predecessor.

The Verdict – Miss

Super Pokemon Mystery Dungeon:

PokemonPokemon Mystery Dungeon Gates to Infinity was a big disappointment. It only let us play as Tepig, Oshawott, Snivy, Pikachu, and Axew. It was the weakest roster of Pokemon we’ve ever had in a Mystery Dungeon game. Super Pokemon Mystery Dungeon fixed this by letting us play as all the starters and Riolu. They also brought back the questionnaire that determines which Pokemon we’ll get to be in game. I can’t wait to play this game later this month.

Verdict – Hit

This wraps up this edition of hit or miss. I might make the list a little smaller in the future, but there are a lot of games to cover this month and not all of them are worth the asking price in my opinion.

I feel really bad for the folks at Crystal Dynamics. They clearly worked their asses off on Rise of the Tomb Raider, but it couldn’t have possibly released at a worse time. 2 weeks after Halo 5, 1 week after Black Ops 3, the same day as Fallout 4, and the week before Battlefront. The UK sales figures are pretty dismal as well.

My girlfriend picked up Yo-Kai Watch and loves it. She’s totally obsessed. Definitely seems like a solid alternative to Pokemon, with its focus on story and some neat mini-games during combat to draw away from the constant mashing of the A button. Apparently there’s daily challenges where you can use the 3DS camera to take pictures of yourself to earn new Yo-Kai, which is cool.

That sounds awesome :]. I should have Yo Kai Watch by Christmas if I’m lucky :].

Rise of The Tomb Raider really did release at a bad time. I saw it selling poorly because of all of the other games that was releasing around it. I know Crystal Dynamics worked hard on it, but there was no way I was going to choose Tomb Raider over Fallout 4 :].

I’m not a big Tomb Raider fan to begin with and I don’t mind missing out on this game.

Even as someone who really enjoyed the reboot (enough to replay it when Definitive Edition came out), I’m not all that excited to drop $60 on something I can kill in a weekend. Especially this close to the holidays.

I’m really hoping to see it in stock at a local Red Box. That’s what I did with Halo 5 lol. The campaign was universally panned and that’s all I was interested in. Glad I dodged a bullet with that one.

Enjoy Yo-Kai, man. It looks pretty rad.

I enjoyed the reboot too, but it had no replay value to me. I didn’t bother getting the definitive edition because I think the default PC version looks a lot better. I got it when it was free for Xbox One, but I haven’t played it.

The new Tomb Raider looks bigger, and better then the previous one and I know I’m probably missing out on a really good game, but it’s not worth $60 to me. I didn’t even pay $60 for Fallout 4.

Yo Kai Watch is going to rule my life for a little while :]. There are some hilarious looking Yo Kai in the demo. I can’t wait to play the full version :].

Same here. I don’t do multi-player, especially tacked on multi-player for otherwise single player games.
