I Quit Final Fantasy 14 A Realm Reborn

Spread the Word!

I had fun with Final Fantasy 14 while it lasted, but I don’t think I’m going back.

I played Final Fantasy 14 for about 20 days before I decided to quit. I still have a little more time before my first 30 days expire, but I have no interest in renewing and I don’t know if I ever will.

I don’t like paying to play a game. It makes me feel like I’m renting a game because once my 30 days are up I either have to stop playing or cough up $15 so I can keep playing. I don’t like it and this is coming from a guy that would happily pay $60 to play Guild Wars 2, but it’s only a one time fee. I paid $10 for The Secret World, and I even dipped my hand in Black Desert.

I don’t have a problem buying MMOs, but I do have a problem with a monthly subscription because I honestly don’t think Final Fantasy 14 is worth it. The game is fun and I love that I can change my class at any time, but after I hit level 20 I just didn’t have the will to continue playing. It became very repetitive to me and I needed to take a break.

I met some really nice people playing A Realm Reborn and had a lot  of fun fishing, smithing, and doing the other various activities in the game. It’s a nice break from the usual monster killing that the game had me doing and I’ll probably missing sitting on the docks of Limsa Lominsa and fishing my nights away with my wife.

If the story was better I would probably stick around just to see how it ends, but it’s actually pretty terrible and I have no desire to finish it. 90% of the quest that I’ve done are boring and have me running around killing mobs of enemies. Would would think that a game that has us paying $15 a month would offer us something better because I do this in free to play MMOs. I would have stuck with Black Desert if I wanted to do boring quest after boring quest.

The gameplay in A Realm Reborn is your traditional point and click gameplay that you’ll find in classic MMOs like Wow, and Everquest, but unlike those two games it’s actually fun. I didn’t mind the slow gameplay when compared to other MMOs that I previously played like Black Desert, ESO, and even Guild Wars 2.

What I really didn’t like about A Realm Reborn was the repetitive structure of everything in game. The gameplay can only carry this game so far. Nothing that I did felt rewarding to me. None of the quest rewards were worth it because I had previously crafted better gear for myself, and I don’t like the fact that I was forced to do 40 minute raids in order to advance in the main story. I had to force myself to get in the mood for those raids because I didn’t feel like doing them, but I had to do them so I could advance in the main plot.

A Realm Reborn is a good MMO, but it isn’t a great one in my opinion. I actually enjoy The Elder Scrolls Online more then I do Final Fantasy 14, but that’s not an insult to the game. ESO has gotten much better then it used to be and I can actually play it now without throwing up all over my screen. Final Fantasy 14 was fun, but it’s ultimately not worth a monthly sub and I just can’t bring myself to pay for, again, when I know there are better MMOs out there for me to spend time in that won’t cost me $15.

So how would fighting mobs in ff14 boring compared to fighting mobs in Fallout 4?

How can you compare two different games? They’re not even in the same genre. One’s a MMO and the other is a RPGFPS hybrid.

I see. I appreciate your honesty with the Witcher 3 review. Its funny that not a single game reviewer singled out the combat of that game. Its crazy maybe they are casual gamers or whatever.

Most people that criticise The Witcher 3’s combat can be found on game forums tbh.

The new alternative mode made the combat better, but not enough for me to raise my score of the game :).

I personally think most reviewers rushed through the main story and slapped a score on the game. I completed the game on PC and Xbox before I wrote my review.

About FF… If you l like FF you’ll most likely like the MMO and it’s up to you on whether or not you think it’s worth a monrhly fee.

If i did not like the combat in witcher 3, would the new alternative mode be good enough to make a difference for me to return to the game?

I think so. Geralt isn’t as floaty as he used to be, and you roll more realistically then before, but don’t go in expecting Dark Souls or Legend of Zelda type quality with the combat and you’ll be good.
